| Batman Returns (1992) Cast:Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer,Christopher Walken This time Batman finds himself doing battle with The Penguin who is a deformed freak who was raised by penguins, he wants to rule gotham city and when he can't do it through politics he tries to do it the illegal way, all of this is boring but enter the most interesting character Catwoman who seduces Batman. Truly to be blunt this one was hard to watch, it's so disappointingly somber with no sense of humor at all, the first had a sharp sense of irony and it walked the line perfectly but now all of it is too dreary to be enjoyable, actually strike that. Batman Returns would be enjoyable if it had more screen time between Batman and Catwoman, although I don't recall much from the comics I used to read as a kid, I remember the relationship being as complex as this and that's where it gains most of the points.Pfeiffer and Keaton share much more erotic chemistry than Keaston did with Basinger so there's a plus. However Walken is seriously out of place here and uh, nice hair. Mainly though it's just too dull and dreary to be fun, DeVito also needs more screen time, as he also delivers an excellent performance which would benefit from more screen time. Sadly though it's all too glum. D. Tim Burton ** |
