Batman (1989)

Cast:Jack Nicholson,Michael Keaton, Kim Basinger, Jack Palance

Keaton stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman a vigilante who fights to protect Vicki Vayle (Basinger) from the hideous "The Joker" in this rich and admittedly well put together take on the classic comicbook hero, sure some things are silly but the atmosphere and acting make this up there with Superman as one of the best comicbook to screen adaptations.

Well the thing I really liked here was Nicholson's acting. Screw everything else about
Batman, the performance itself is so good that it could earn a recommendation on it's own because Nicholson is this movie. Keaton and Basinger also contribute good performances and the psychology of Batman is extremely well handled but the atmosphere is what really catches the eye. The model sets are so blazingly surreal, so that excellent actionscenes look all the more interesting because of it. Truly as comicbook movies go this is as great as it gets, it makes one willing to forgive the shortcomings and just sit back and enjoy the show. Unfortunately followed by three lame sequels (Come to think of it Batman and Robin was godawful.)D.Tim Burton ****
