Once again this movie is a true classic. One of the best martial arts movies to not star Bruce Lee, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin is a lot like Five Fingers Of Death in how it is made. The craftsmanship in the training montage, the fight sequences and acting are all first rate. The fight sequences are creative, brutal and always exciting to watch. If you ever wonder why people associate martial arts with shaolin temple monks and how said story of man trains with shaolin temple monks to get revenge came from, this is the reason right here. This movie really is a great old school kung fu flick, it has the one of the best training montages ever put on film and the climax in particular is a real balls to the walls classic in the genre. When it came to martial arts movies post-Bruce Lee, no one did them better than the Shaw Bros., and The 36th Chamber of Shaolin is apple proof of this.. D.Chia Liang Liu***1/2 |
