| Death Wish 4: The Crackdown (1987) Cast:Charles Bronson,Kay Lenz,John P. Ryan, Soon Tech Oh,George Dickerson Paul Kersey(Bronson) is at it again. When a group of drug dealers contribute to a loved one's death it's time for Charlie to dust off the old grenade launcher and he's gonna hit the drug empire...Extra hard! "And the first three times were only practice" said the movie's preview which is pretty straight forward in it's generic plot outline. Bronson was at one time considered a serious actor for his westerns are for the most part classic but ever since Bronson did the first Death Wish, Bronson has been typecast as a vigilante. Infact everytime you see him you think "Who's killed Bronson's family now?" Death Wish 4 is no exception here. Unfortunately for the audience Death Wish 4 is a sub-standard revenge movie that offers zero novel touches., Infact the only redeeming thing that saves Death Wish 4 from a * rating is it's unintentional humor. Death Wish 4's somber tones make the movie laughable. The first half of this movie is cliche (Not to mention pointless) as it sets up Bronson's loved one for slaughter. As long as Death Wish 4 can offer good actionscenes all would be alright, unforuntately We never feel Bronson is in any kind of danger which makes the film feel drawn out and redundant. The real doom of the movie is it's predictability since the formula is wearing very thin it offers lots of tedium, although there was a twist ending I didn't see coming but otherwise things get blown up good and Bronson doesn't even break a sweat. As for unintentional humor it's all in the dialog; "It's those Damn Drugs", "How many kids have you killed with this shit!" Bronson delivers these lines with such a blank look it makes the movie seem almost redeemable, also is the final scene in the climax which shows Bronson phoning it in and not giving a damn. So in other words. Death Wish 4 is pretty much what the other 2 before were, hopeless, in how they tried to deliver a message. Maybe it's time for Kersey to move into a nursing home;.Paul Kersey the vigilante taking on corrupt nurses..Now that's entertainment! D.J.Lee Thompson *1/2 |
