Home Improvement's for Everyone!!
I'm Beau Fournet, and I am a very enthusiastic home improvement "go-getter".  I do all my projects myself including electrical, plumbing, step building, roofing, and anything else you can probably think of.  I am presently finishing my In-Laws' home which they started building 12 years ago. Hopefully they will be in there in about 18 months or less.  As I am helping them, I am here to help U !

Handyman's Tip
Even though you might have heard this a million times, it is always worth the breath:  "MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE."  Practicing this little hint will save you some board feet one day on a project.
Project of the Day:  Step Building
Even though you can buy precut step stringers from the local hardware store or lumber yard, the need to cut your own custom step stringers may arise.  Most precuts that you buy are cut using the very basic formula that will suffice some projects.  Since there is no way for the manufacturer to know the dimensions of your projects, they cut their stringers to reasonably accomodate some projects.  In the event you find that these precut stringers just won't fit your needs, you will have to cut your own stringers and there are some rules that must be followed to ensure that the steps are comfortable and safe.  Go to, Home Focus, to see how to properly measure, layout, and cut your very own step stringers no matter how big a project you have.  This is a very handy piece of information to have since I have used it several times so far around my house and many more times to come I am sure.  Hope this information is as valuable and rewarding for you as it was for me.  Good Cutting!!--Beau

A Little About Me
I am 26 years old and was born in and still live in south Louisiana in a little town named Elton, LA.  I am married to a wonderful woman and have a glorious son. Home improvement is a hobby, not my profession. I am a U.S. Coast Guard licensed pilot for Kirby Inland Marine of Houston, TX where I drive a 1400 h.p. towboat pushing barges through the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.  I work 20 days staying on the boat the entire time. I then come home for 10 days to spend with my family whom I love dearly. This is when I have to delicately fit in enough time to pursue my hobby, home building and improvement. Then just a week and a half later, it's time to return to work. My life's a constant juggle between my family, hobbies, and work, but I wouldn't change a thing.

1995- Did extensive work on a home my Mom & Dad had just bought including flooring, window rebuilding, sheetrock work & Painting.
1996- Built a carpot for my new Chevrolet S-10 SS extending off of my Mom & Dad's existing carport.
1997- Built another carport to cover my newly acquired G-3 Bass Boat
1998- Built a 4' x 8' entry porch on the front of my wife's brother's house by my lonesome taking about 4 days to complete.
1999- Gutted and rebuilt the kitchen in my new house incorporating a more open floor plan and utilizing the small space we had.
2001- Built a 12' x 24' deck on the back of my new home and finished it up by installing custom designed and built hand rails.
2000- Remodeled my sister's spare bathroom in a home they had just bought putting in new tub, toilet, sink, wallboard and molding.
2001- Closed in the boat caport at my parents' and made it into a very functional and cost efficient storage shed.
2002- Remodeled my parents' back bathroom by installing new shower and sink, new wallboard, new ceiling, and new flooring.
2004- Designed and built a separation wall in my home between my living room and dining room in effect making one large space seem like two large rooms while still keeping the open feeling  by using windows.
We designed and built this wall using glass block windows as well as some traditional windows I built to separate my living room from my dining room.  By using these two transparent design elements, we succesfully divided one very large area into two large rooms.  The wall was heavily insulated to also act as a sound barrier which comes in handy when watching movies.
