The Pittsburgh Iris & Daylily Society
Region 3 -American Hemerocallis Society, American Iris Society
Club Information
PIDS was started years ago by gardeners who shared a special
affection for the species iris and hemerocallis. In 1992 we
incorporated to operate exclusively as a non-profit organization to
promote, encourage and foster the development of these two genus.
Enough dry words, suffice it to say that
we all in our own ways try to further both our own and the general
public's appreciation of these two plants.
We hold six to eight meetings a year and publish a quarterly
newsletter. The society's calendar normally runs from a spring program
in March or early April through a November program. The iris vice
president is responsible for the first program and the October meeting
which also includes the society's annual business meeting. The daylily
vice president has responsibility for the May daylily auction and the
November program. We usually sponsor accredited shows - iris in late
May and daylily in mid July, plus a summer picnic,
plant auctions and an early fall banquet. As the opportunity arises, we
have also in some years held an educational show, clinics to help our
members
prepare for our shows, judges training clinics and additional programs
featuring
speakers of interest.
New members and guests are encouraged to attend and participate
in all
of the society's meetings and functions. To help you start a plant
collection, PIDS members donate plants at our summer picnic that our
new members share. If you have any cares, concerns or questions, don't
hesitate to contact
one of the officers or board members.
