1991 INTRODUCTIONS

SOPHIA ANNE BURKEY - # 89-24. Dormant.dip.EM.RE.27"5.5" [FAIRY TALE PINK X MARTHA ADAMS] Named for my wife and best friend, this marvelously gorgeous rosy eyed, light beige-pink flower with highly ruffled petals and sepals produces marvelously beautiful blooms with great feminine charm. Because of the slight recurve of the Petaloids and the width of both petals and sepals, the flower has a rounded appearance. Color saturation, substance, and clarity are excellent. The deep rose-pink eyezone is not rounded, but rests in an oblong way on each petal. Back of the deep rose-pink eyezone is a chartreuse yellow area, turning to a light green in the throat, and a darker green heart. The magnificent flowers are sun-resistant, diamond dusted, and have heavy substance. Three-way branched scapes are erect and graceful. Bud spacing and reliable rebloom result in a long bloom season. The bud count is 17 on the first set of scapes. PICTURED IN THE SPRING '94 ISSUE OF THE DAYLILY JOURNAL Spring/Fall Delivery.......Double Fans.....$12.00

FATHER JAMES FOSTER - # 88-113. Dor.tet.MLa.33"5.5" [JOHNNY BARBOUR X CHICAGO APACHE] The flower is dark, lustrous, and moderately, yet nicely ruffled red self with a marvelous, dark velvety overlay finish and a tiny green throat. Its color is luscious, deep, and rich. There is a small triangular area of electric red sheen between the inner flower and the tiny green throat. It has good qualities for a red. The petals are overlapped. Truly a lovely, eye-catching color for so dark a red. Petals recurve slightly, shedding is fairly quick, and the scape is erect and sturdy with 3-way branching. Bud count = 16. Fans are moderately large.

STARMAN'S FANTASY - # 88-126. Dor.dip.M.30"8" [OPEN HEARTH X WUTHERING HEIGHTS] Sometimes cross will produce almost exactly the best characteristics of each parent, while eliminating most of their faults. STARMAN'S FANTASY is an outstanding, flamboyant or baroque Exotic Form. In the Unusual Form Class, it can be a crispate, cascade, quilled, twisting, and even spatulate type. Its ratio = [3.0:1], It is very spidery and dramatic in its appearance. The flowers are a bright burgundy red, while the green chartreuse throat is huge, spreading out one third of the way into the flower. The throat turns yellow in the afternoon sun, but this does not alter the spectacular qualities of this flower. Sepals twirl on this richly colored hem. Petals recurve somewhat, a bit more on the 3rd one, giving the blossom its fantastic shape. A clump of this clone is spectacular. The texture is velvety. Scapes are erect and branched 3-ways. Bud count = 15. PICTURED IN THE FALL, ‘94 ISSUE OF THE DAYLILY JOURNAL.

WEB OF ANDROMEDA - # 86-46. Dor.dip.MLa.Re.fr.36"7" [JERSEY SPIDER X ARACHNE] [Ratio=2.8:1] A most attractive tannish yellow spidery Exotic Form with a tiny green throat, rather long bloom season, and good clump value. Flowers are up-facing, a good trait for this type of blossom. It’s sun resistant and diamond dusted. Petalloids recurve moderately at the segment ends. Reliable rebloom here, but early frosts damage scapes some years, which shouldn’t happen south of Zone 5. Bud count=23. 3-way branching. A good increaser here.

1990 INTRODUCTIONS

STARMAN'S QUEST - # 87-3. Dor.dip.M.40"7" [TRAHLYTA X PERSIAN PATTERN] This spectacular flower is a violet mauve semi-spider with a striking purple eyezone which dominates the petals and enhances the sepals. [Ratio = 2.9:1] PICTURED IN THE FALL ‘94 ISSUE OF THE DAYLILY JOURNAL. The bright green throat extends from the heart of the flower to the inside edge of the eye on both the petals and sepals where it becomes chartreuse. STARMAN'S QUEST is a flamboyant, eye-catching EXOTIC FORM. The dark rich purple eye pattern is lighter on the sepals and not as intense as it is on the petals. Sepals recurve and sometimes twist a bit. Petals variably may recurve sometimes, flare sometimes, and sometimes are pinched. The flower is fairly widespread with 3-way branching. Petals ruffle moderately. It is sun-resistant here. B.C.=14

MISS PENNSYLVANIA - Hardy Evergreen.tet.EE.28"6" [MAY SEVENTY-EIGHT X FRENCH PORCELAIN] This early blooming peach-pink polychrome and bitone with bright yellow wash overlay and tiny green throat blooms about a month before midseason here, so it is often missed by the July/August garden visitors. The sepals are peach pink, as are the petals, but the middle part of the flower is washed with a bright golden yellow dusting. The midribs are peach-pink. Irregularly remontant here. Bud count = 13-21, Fast increase.
Spring/Fall delivery........Triple Fans.....$10.00

STARMAN'S GIFT - Semi-evergreen.dip.M.27"6" [JOAN SENIOR X WHITE TEMPTATION] This large, well overlapped near white self with a tiny yellow-green throat opens considerably flatter than its pod parent, but will recurve slightly on very warm days. Good bud spacing and bud count induce a long bloom season. This lovely, commanding flower is moderately and nicely ruffled with slight creping. Bud count = 27-36. I feel it to be superior to both its very reputable parents. Very Limited.....Fall delivery......One Double Fans......$10.00
