FORGIVENESS - 97-15, Dormant, tetraploid, M.30" 6" This bright and cheery self with a strong, vivacious, and exceptionally deep rose pink color has to be seen with the naked eye to be appreciated for its unusual beauty.  There is a small circle of yellow above the green throat.  Midribs are lighter rose.  Bud count = 10-17.  Lightly ruffled.  Difficult pod parent. Parentage tag lost........Fall Delivery

LIGHTNING BIRD - # 98-36 - Dormant, tetraploid, M. 36" 5.5" Another advanced step forward in my line of fiery red-oranges with electric azalea color carrying ability.  Absolutely brilliant, and noticed at great distances, this red-orange has deep red veining, a moderately darker halo, and a green throat.  It is fertile both ways, has 5-way branching, and a bud count of 21 its first bloom season.  [(CHICAGO APACHE X WOUNDED HEART) X PRIME MINISTER]

MYSTICAL ENCHANTRESS - # 96-17, Dormant, diploid, M. 40" 9.5"  Crimson bitone spider variant with a faintly darker halo.  The sepals are yellow, brushed crimson, and the huge yellow throat along with so much yellow in the sepals sets this magnificent flower off well.  Both petals and sepals curve downward at the tip, adding a special grace to the flower.  Fertile both ways.  Ratio = 4.8/1.  Three way branching with a bud count of 16+

ROMERO'S SOMBRERO - # 96-64, Semi-evergreen, diploid, M. 58" 8" This nearly five foot tall exotic daylily is neither a Spider nor an Unusual Form, though it suggests a spidery appearance.  Nonetheless, this light pink bitone with a dashing purplish red band and yellow, turning to green throat, attracts attention for both its height and its striking color combination.  The palest pink sepals are brushed with the same purplish red in the band.  Strong scapes here.  Bud Count = 16. [(ARIADNE X LADY NEVA) X JURASSIC SPIDER]

SCARLET SWALLOWTAIL - # 99-9, Dormant, diploid, M. 39" 8" Bright scarlet is a great color for this rather large Unusual Form Cascade.  The big throat is bright yellow on this scarlet self.  Bud count = 13.  You won't fail to notice this commanding red in the garden. [(SPIDER WEB X SPIDER MIRACLE) X (RED FLAG X WUTHERING HEIGHTS)]

INTRODUCTIONS FOR 2001

CHIRICAHUA WARRIOR - # 97-8  Semi-evergreen, diploid, M.40”8”  This exotic is a bright yellow spidery looking flower with a great chevron burgundy-red eyezone on the petals only.  It creates quite an impression in a clump, is a fairly fast increaser, and is a good pod parent.  It’s ratio can vary from 3.5/1 to 4.2/1, so it is occasionally a spider variant.  BC = 11.  (MICO X FOL DE ROL)

CHOCOLATE CHERRY TRUFFLE - # 94-56  Hardy evergreen, tetraploid.M.34” 4.75” "This rather unusual flower is a reddish-burgundy and strong brown blend with a chartreuse throat and deeper burgundy brown halo".  It has a deeper chocolate burgundy edging on the petals, 3-way branching,  a bud count of about 17, and wide overlapping petals. "Photographs and slides don't always show the correct reddish and strong brown hues that the eye perceives."
(CHICAGO APACHE X VINTAGE BORDEAUX)

EMERALD LADY - # 95-7  Semi-evergreen, diploid, M. 29" 7". This bright yellow Unusual Form often has a spidery or arachnid look, but is a lively Twisting Crispate with a large, strong green throat.  One of it's most attractive features is the ruffled and crinkled petals and sepals, a feature that distinctively shows up from quite a distance.  Ratio = 3.5/1.  It is a good pod parent with a bud count of about 10 in this zone. Though GREEN WIDOW is just slightly tender here, this one is quite hardy.  (FOR PETE'S SAKE X GREEN  WIDOW)

LATELY LOVING YOU  - # 95-42  Dormant, diploid, VL. 31” 8”   This is a serenely lovely Exotic with the distinct advantage of being a late bloomer (August and September here).  Hence it has great garden value for the extended season.  Somewhat spidery in appearance, the flower is a soft, pale beige-lavender, with a distinctive rose band, and bright chartreuse throat.  The petals and sepals curl back towards the tips,  yet the face of the flower is fairly flat, while the petals are loosely ruffled.  Four-way branching with a BC = 15.    (FOOLSCAP X ORCHID CORSAGE)

PTERODACTYL EYE - # 97-35 Dormant, diploid, M. 39” 9”  Spectacular in appearance, the ratio of this flower can vary from about 4.2/1 to 6.8/1, depending on the weather.  Mainly a spider variant, this one shows up dramatically at quite a distance with its vibrant, standout purplish rose eye (band).  A bicolor, the yellow sepals contrast handsomely with the eyezone and the pale pinkish beige petal tips. The throat stands out in bright yellow with a green heart.  A handsome flower and a good pod parent.  BC = 14.  [(ARIADNE X LADY NEVA) X JURASSIC SPIDER]
