BIRDWING BUTTERFLY - # 96-9  Dormant, diploid, LM.45î 7îNot a true spider, but an Exotic that is spidery looking. It is a  lavender and yellow bitone at a distance.   Sepals are actually a nice yellow color brushed with lavender.  A striking purple band on the petals, light midribs, and a green throat provide a splashy color pattern.  This cultivar has great garden and clump value, is quite floriferous, and possesses a long bloom season because of its high bud count of 28.  Petals often curl on this 5-way branched daylily.  The ratio is 3.67/1.  Fertile both ways.  (RAINBOW SPANGLES X FOL DE  ROL)

GALACTIC JAUNT - # 90-36  Dormant, diploid,LM.29î8.5î Rebloom  Here is a very sprightly looking bright, light yellow spider variant with a green throat and a reblooming tendency, making it a good garden asset.  The ratio is 4.8/1, the bud count 11 on first bloom and 8 on second bloom in a fairly shady location.  Petalloids will curl on warm days and the flower opens flatter on cooler days.  Fertile both ways. (JERSEY SPIDER X ARACHNE)

KIRSTEN MADELINE BURKEY - # 95-18  Dormant, diploid, M. 35î10îThis huge, awesome,  magnificent, and strongly dramatic spider variant is dressed in  rich crimson red with a huge yellow turning to green throat.  Its ratio is 4.6/1 with a bud count of 12 and 3-way branching.  Moderately to sometimes  reluctantly fertile both ways.  Marvelous in a clump, individual blossoms open up rather flat with a slight recurve towards the ends of the segments, giving it one of the most dramatic appearances Iíve yet seen produced here with any clone at Hickory Hill Gardens.  This flower was named for our daughter Kirsten.

ROBERT ALAN ECKENROD - # 93-6  Dormant, diploid,M.35î7î This is an Unusual Form of the pinched crispate type with lavender mauve pinched petals and curled back sepals.  It sports a striking rosy purple eyezone, pronounced lighter midribs, and a yellow-green throat.  3-way branching support a bud count of 12 in the seedling bed.  There is a slight piecrust ruffling on the petals and the sepals.  Named after the man who gave so much of his time to design and create my website.  Fertile both ways.

STARMAN'S DELIGHT - # 89-41  Dormant, diploid, M.28î8î (stretching sometimes to 12î) Bright yellow self classic spider with green throat.  Petalloids sometimes are straight and sometimes twirl moderately.  Fertile both ways.  Bud count of 15 with 5-way branching.  Ratio = 5.33/1. Some days it will be even more narrow.  Closure = 1.25.  Just another spider.......no,  not this one.  I have used this as a seedling for a number of years and have gotten some good things from it.  It is fertile both ways and will frequently give up its yellow color.  It is the pod parent of KIRSTEN MADELINE BURKEY and STARMAN'S DREAM.
(JERSEY SPIDER X ARACHNE)

STARMAN'S DREAM - 96-35  Dormant, diploid, M.21î7î (STARMANíS DELIGHT X STARMANíS FANTASY) Dark crimson classic spider with  moderately large yellow-chartreuse throat and a ratio of 5.26/1.  Bud count of 10 and 3-way branching.  This is a somewhat wispy, yet serene flower.

STAR TIDE - # 94-51  Dormant, diploid, LM.37î6.5î Dark purple with a large yellow hexagram throat and green heart, and pronounced white midribs.  It is not a spider; nor is it an Unusual Form, but can look spidery. Petaloids curl back and there is a slightly darker purple band on the petals.
Bud count is 14 with 3-way branching.

1999 INTRODUCTIONS

DANCING CRAB - # 92-11 Dormant, diploid,M.42"6"Light scarlet cascading type Unusual Form with deep bright green throat and lovely curling Petaloids. It has three way branching and a bud count of about 14. Ratio = 3.82/1 A lovely and exotic eyecatcher that garden visitors have long admired. Fertile both ways. See the picture of DANCING CRAB in the Summer ‘99 issue of the Daylily Journal.  (SCARLET GOWN X RED THRILL

FLAMING FIREBIRD - # 95-47 Dormant, tetraploid, 44"6"LM.Deep, dark bright and fiery tangerine-orange-scarlet blend with darker, almost imperceptible halo and green throat. The veining is red which helps give the fiery impression. It is overlapped, ruffled, has 4-5 way branching and a bud count of 21. Fertile both ways. This cultivar has produced at least one of my most fiery seedlings in this color class to date and to be introduced later. (CHICAGO APACHE X WOUNDED HEART)

HELGA BJORNERUD BURKEY - # 94-29 Dormant, diploid,41"7"LM.Voluptuous purple Unusual Form of the cascade type with huge green throat. All segments curl back, twisting at the tips, but on hotter days it can take on an arachnid look. The deep bright green throat extends over 1/3rd out the petals as it turns chartreuse at its end. It would be much, much larger if all the curling segments were stretched out to their limit. Midribs are chartreuse-white. It has 4-5 way branching and a bud count of 23. Blooming late midseason here, it has a very long bloom season due to its bloom spacing sequence. It is fertile both ways. My best Exotic since LOLA BRANHAM. See the picture of HELGA BJORNERUD BURKEY in the Summer ‘99 Issue of the Daylily Journal. (STARMAN’S FANTASY X LOLA BRANHAM) This cultivar is named for my deceased Mother, an immigrant from Norway and an inspiration to us siblings who were fortunate enough to be her children..

TURANDOT’S TIARA - # 95-43 - Semi-evergreen, diploid,40"8"LM. Lively, dramatic looking very light rosy-tan and bright yellow bicolor spider variant whose ratio just makes the 4/1 requirement, though it may be a bit less after heavy rains. The huge bright light yellow throat is the same color as the sepals. Petals are adorned with a purplish-rose wedge-shaped halo, creating a very striking effect. All segments curl back at their tips. Sepals are slightly ruffled. The rosy-tan color is so light, the overall color effect of the flower at a distance is bright light yellow with its dramatic halo. It has 2-3 way branching and a bud count of 12. It is a difficult pod parent for me, but its pollen will take on some cultivars. See the picture of TURANDOT’S TIARA in the Summer ‘99 issue of the Daylily Journal. (Unknown x FOL DE ROL) The unknown may be SPIDER MIRACLE.
