1998 INTRODUCTIONS

DARBY’S MYSTIQUE - # 89-16 Dormant, dip.40"8"M.RE.[JERSEY SPIDER X ARACHNE] Light yellow with a deeper, richer yellow wash over parts of the petals is this spider variant that has proven to be a reliable repeater here with a bud count of 19 on the first set ofscapes, and a bud count of 12 on the second set which appears about a month later. The commanding flowers are supported by tall scapes and are branched 3-ways. Scapes may lean slightly if fed too much nitrogen. The throat is green. Petals recurve and twirl just a bit at the tips while sepals curl back slightly. Named for our daughter Kirsten’s imaginary friend at age 3. The ratio is 4.8/1.....Fall Delivery....Double Fans...........$25.00 each

MONTSERRAT’S REVENGE - # 94-4 Semi-evergeen, tet.21"5"M.[(Sdlg. X PALACE GUARD) X (MAUNA LOA X SOUND AND FURY)] This is the first of a line of several fiery orange red cultivars to be introduced. The overlapped flower is basically a fiery orange red blend self with a tiny green heart. Petals are moderately ruffled with some red veining. The petal midribs are a pronounced purplish red, quite noticeable and most attractive. Bud count = 13 on 3-way branched scapes. Petals recurve slightly toward the tips..Spring/Fall Delivery....TRIPLE Fans............$20.00 each

STARMAN’S VOYAGE - # 94-49 Dormant, dip.41"9"M.(RAINBOW SPANGLES X WILLIE BELLE) This huge, compelling light lavender purple flower with some rosy highlights is supported by very tall, strong scapes which stand quite straight here. This is an Exotic Form and not a spider, but it looks spidery. Its ratio = 2.8/1. An outstanding feature of the flower is its huge, very bright green throat with unique yellow midribs running through the green part only. The green throat extends about 1/3rd way out the flower. Petalloids are slightly ruffled. Petals recurve at the ends, while sepals may recurve, pinch, or twirl slightly depending on the random variability the day brings. 3-way branching supports a bud count in the seedling bed of about 15.

1997 INTRODUCTIONS

ANDROID - # 94-16 Semi-evergreen.dip.42"7.5"M. [BLACK PLUSH X FOL DE ROL] Dark and exotic is this commanding burgundy purple classic spider with an excellent ratio of 5.9:1. Its huge chartreuse throat extends out 1/3rd of the flower, starting out bright green, then turning to chartreuse, and then to yellow as it meets an almost imperceptible eyezone which is only slightly darker purple. Petal midribs are yellowish and more prominent than those on the sepals. Both petals and sepals recurve at the ends, while the petals twist slightly. It has 3-way branching and a bud count of 10+. Sun resistant. A dramatic flower that makes a statement. PICTURED IN THE NEW PLANTS ‘97(February) ISSUE OF FLOWER AND GARDEN MAGAZINE AND THE SUMMER 1997 ISSUE OF THE DAYLILY JOURNAL....VERY Limited......Fall Delivery........$40 each

KIRSTEN’S CORSAGE - # 94-30 Dor.dip.ML.37"7+" [WILLIE BELLE X LOLA BRANHAM] Vivacious, rosy purple flower with a huge chartreuse throat and smashing, deep magenta eyezone. This is a baroque or flamboyant EXOTIC FORM that looks spidery simply because its petals are narrow at the center of the flower[Ratio = 3.25:1]. On certain days the flower increases in ratio to become a spider variant. The huge chartreuse throat extends over 1/3rd of the way out from the heart. Branching is 4-way, and the bud count is 13. It is somewhat reminiscent of a cattleya orchid. PICTURED IN THE SUMMER 1997 ISSUE OF THE DAYLILY JOURNAL
