Patrick was born on August 9th 1944 and was tragicly killed while testing his Alfa Romeo car at Hockenhiem on August 1st 1980.
Patrick's international motor racing carrer began with F3Renault racing in 1967,68,69 with a couple of Sports car races thrown in for good measure. In 1970,71,72 Patrick raced both F3 and F2 championship series and his results were impressive enough for Ken Tyrrell to offer Patrick two drives in F1 in 1972.
1973 saw Patrick finish thrid in F2 but a broken leg in a motorcycle accident meant he had to miss some races for Tyrrell.
1974 saw Patrick racing full time for Tyrrell, as well as becoming the F2 champion he scored a second place at At Sweden in F1.
Patrick spent the next four years racing for Tyrrell with 1976 being producing his best finish of 4th in the championship.
1978 and finally Patrick's first Win at Monaco for Tyrrell sadly this was the last year that Patrick raced full time in F1, because in 1979 Patrick had signed for the Ligier Team which was at its most successful in this time period and while Patrick Won the Spainish Grand Prix a mid season Hang Gliding accident left Patrick with severe leg injuries that looked likely to end his career, it certainly ended his contract with Ligier.
In 1980 however Patrick after 7 months in a wheelchair returned to F1 with the Alfa Romeo team and showed that he had lost none of his ability's behind the wheel. Sadly though in mid season while testing at the hockenhiem circuit Patrick's car veered off track and hit an unprotected guard rail and died instanly. Patrick was always known as a daredevil who liked to do action man type sports.
