Gilles Villeneuve was born in Chambly, Quebec on January 18 1950. Gilles was tragicly killed during quailifying in the Belgian Grand Prix on May 8th 1982.
Gilles made his F1 debut in 1977 driving a third works McLaren the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. It was a drive that impressed Enzo Ferrari who signed Gilles for the last two races of 1977 to replace the retiring Niki Lauda and scored a 12th place in Canada and a DNF in Japan, Gilles remained with Ferrari until his death in 1982.
