It is celebrated on the 21st of November, every year,
the Ovidenia Festival marks Holy Virgin's entering the church. People say
that on this day the sky opens and the animals speak. The men predict the
weather and women aren't permitted to wash clothes. The custom is dedicated
on the dead for whom charity food is offered. More than 2000 years ago,
the festival used to mark the New Year's Eve for our ancestors, the Dacians,
but in time this day reminded just a good opportunity for the commemoration
of the dead.

Sărbătorită la 21 noiembrie, în fiecare an, Ovidenia
marchează intrarea în biserică a Fecioarei Maria. În această zi se spune
că cerul se deschide, iar animalele vorbesc. Bărbații fac previziuni meteorologice,
iar femeilor le este interzis timp de 2 săptămâni să spele rufe la râu.
Sărbătoarea este dedicată morților, pentru care se organizează mese sau
se împart pomeni. Acum mai bine de 2000 de ani, sărbătoarea reprezenta
Anul Nou la daci, strămosii nostri, dar cu trecerea timpului, ziua aceasta
a rămas doar un bun prilej de comemorare a mortilor.
