R.I.P. Dewey Robertson & Brian Adams |
This past week has been a very trying time for me. With the passing of Bronko Lubich and the untimely death of Crush (Brian Adams) and my friend Dewey Robertson in the hospital (he passed away on Wednesday morning in Canada), I needed some time away. I went to Dallas, Texas and hooked up with the guys and gals of PCW, a company that runs matches every Friday and Saturday night at the PCW Arena on Galleria in Arlington. I was picked up at my hotel by Kody Kox, ring announcer for Uncut (the Friday night show). We had a wonderful conversation on the way to the arena about all the sights I was going by. He was very good at telling me where I was and included his own commentary about the various sights. Arriving at the arena, we went through the rear entrance and into the gym area of PCW. I was very impressed at the amount of equipment they had on hand for training purposes. Kody began to introduce me to everyone that was in both dressing rooms. I really appreciate that kind of touch, as it took a lot of the edge off of me being a stranger to so many of the athletes in attendance. I was then escorted to the front of the building and taken in by the ticketing area and introduced to everyone that ran the concession area and also the staff that kept everybody in line. As I passed the ticket counter, I glanced at the glassed-in area that held so much in the way of Dallas memories of professional wrestling during the Fritz era. Inside the area are some of the robes that Kerry Von Erich wore during his time in wrestling. There were even some of the programs from the Sportatorium and Kerry's passport. I really admire PCW for having the items set out for all to see. They are true professionals from the word go. The arena itself is wired and plumbed for television broadcasting and making of DVD shows from their major events. I was treated to a wonderful evening but am very tired from the trip and will write more during the next column. Thank you for being understanding see you next week.
