Others are inhabitants of Sumbhadesa: and twice-born men, brought by former Princes, have been established in Bada Magadha, Varendra, Chola, Swernagrama, China Cula, Saca, and Berbera. The translator can find most of the places mentioned in India but has to add that China is now part of the Chinese empire and that Saca and Berbera are unknown to him and must be situated on another Dwipa. The chances that this is the Berbera on the East Coast of Africa are rather small. I mention it because from the same late Medieval period I found several mentions from the Muslim world making Mogadishu part of (or at least ruled by) India. |
