| Back to Table of Contents Jnatadharmakatha (5th century) (one of the Holy Jain texts, with parabels) ----------------------------------------------------- Taken from: The Poona Orientalist: A Quarterly Journal Devoted to Oriental Studies January 1955-October 1955 A party of merchants once reached the island named Kaliyadvipa after braving a storm in the sea. They found there the mines of gold, silver diamonds and other jewels, striped horses and aromatic substances. They loaded their ships with these goods and sailed back. Note; Monticandra suggests the identification of Kaliyadvipa with Zanjibar mainly on the ground that striped horses or zebras are said to have been found there. |
