BackgroundEstablished in 1961, we have been making music for over 46 years, contributing to the artistic and cultural life of Potters Bar and the surrounding area. With a repertoire ranging from Verdi to Gershwin, Mozart, Handel, JS Bach, Sir Arthur Sullivan and many other composers, the PBCS enjoy singing a wide variety of choral works, oratorio, part songs, opera and lighter music. Most importantly, the emphasis is on having fun! The choir is not afraid to do things on a large scale: We recently performed (May 2008) the Brahms German Requiem with the Hemel Hempstead Singers forming a choir of 60 with a 45 piece orchestra. In 2002 we joined with the Harrow Philharmonic Choir and the Trinity Orchestra for two memorable performances of the Verdi Requiem. We have an exciting programme planned for next season (2008/9) including a Christmas Concert, a concert of music by British composers such as Vaughan-Williams and Chilcott and a classical concert of the Vivaldi Gloria and Haydn Theresian Mass.. Rehearsals We meet every Tuesday from 8-10 pm at St John's Church Hall, Baker Street, Potters Bar from September 9th 2008. Membership fees averages out at about £3 per rehearsal although we don't ask new members to make a commitment until they have attended three rehearsals. We offer reduced subscriptions for retired, non-waged and student members. There is no audition and we ask only for enthusiasm and a commitment to attend regularly. Sight singing is not a prerequisite for membership and we provide cheap rehearsal CDs in all four voices for many of our chosen pieces.
