I met with Leslie and Yvonne at their home on Magnolia Springs River.
Leslie joined the Army National Guard in Dec. 1957.   He married Yvonne January 21, 1961.  Several months later, in March, 1961, he joined the active service and went to Ft. Benning, GA for training.
He then went to Medical Corp training at Ft. Sam Houston in Texas.  He worked at the Brook General Hospital. Leslie was transferred to Hawaii with the 25th Infantry until May, 1966.  During that time, he had training in Taiwan.  He was due to rotate back to the states in April, but because of the war, all transfers were frozen.
The unit went to Cu Chi, Vietnam.  He spent only six months there because he was returned due to Yvonnes medical complications with their first baby.  He was at Ft. Benning, GA until his release from the service in March, 1967.
Leslie joined his uncle as an electrical contractor, then worked at Mainside in Pensacola in a metal shop for three years.  He then went to work with Westinghouse for four years.
He was farming part time from the mid 70s until the mid 80s, then returned to Mainside as an electrician 83-96.
He rejoined the Guard in 86 for ten years, to acquire a total of 20 years total service.
Leslie developed cancer in his left eye in 1990 and it had to be removed in 1993.  The doctors have now found a liver tumor related to the eye tumor and he now  travels to Houston every six months to see specialist there.
Leslie and Yvonne have three daughters and one son: Lisa, Gina, Rita and Eric.
January 5th, 2003  I just learned that Leslie died last night, Jan. 4th, from his cancer.
