past gigs:

2009:
Friday 29th May 2009, The Hive @ UEA, Norwich (open mic night)
with loads of other people like Charlie Betts, Among Us and the bloke who sings that "England Till I Die" song.

SETLIST:
Deja Vu
Machine
Amorous Oxide
I Remember the Credit Crunch
Take A Leaf Out of My Book.

Another very well-recieved set at the Live Music Society open mic night. Sound wasn't as good as last time and Bob's lead was being a shit but never mind, it was quite fun and we did our new Credit Crunch song. Also playing that was a band called Among Us who Adam is playing bass for (see myspace.com/amongusbanduk). As Bob said at the end of the set, "it was punk as shit". Thanks to everyone who came to see us, and everyone else who enjoyed the set.

Thursday 19th March 2009, Norwegian Blue, Norwich.
with 7th Sense and Kapok.

Take A Leaf Out Of My Book

We were originally supposed to be playing at the Marquee but they unexpectedly cancelled on us just as were setting off. I went on myspace to alert everyone of the cancellation only to find a friend request from someone in Norwich urgently needing a band for that same night. We'd had a good time rehearsing this set and it seemed a shame to waste it so we managed to play at the Norwegian Blue instead and it was great fun. Up is a cover of the Saturdays song but a bit more goth. The set went very well in my opinion, just a shame there wasn't really anyone there to see it. Bob's guitar was a lot louder than the keyboards (to me at least) which sounded quite interesting and different. Thanks again to Mr A. W. "T". Woodward for his examplary roadying skills.

Saturday 28th February 2009: Dirty South, Lewisham, London
with Soul Smith, Clinker, The Eccentric Sensibles, White Felt, Emy and the Band and DJ sets from Charlotte Hatherley and Didz Hammond (Dirty Pretty Things)

SETLIST:
Take A Leaf Out Of My Book

Master Yoga
My Reunion
Deja Vu
Machine

An exciting weekend with a gig featuring names you might have heard of (it was exciting to see Charlotte Hatherley in the flesh, albeit briefly as I was falling asleep after an afternoon driving the van, but that's another story). Bob was otherwise engaged and so for one night only Sam "Niamh Starky" Wilson stood in on guitar and performed admirably, getting to grips with the songs with minimal practice time. There was fun to be had with the collapsing mic stand by the keyboards leading to limboing during Yoga and Roonion. The version of Machine we did for the soundcheck sounded awesome and then the proper one got a bit cocked up. oh well. Countless thanks to Sam.

Tuesday 27th January 2009: The Queen Charlotte, Norwich
with  Aviators and After Effect.

SETLIST:

Amorous Oxide
Aftermath
Master Yoga
Deja Vu
Atnotwia Stage
Doctor Jones
Sonic Disturbance 2
My Reunion
You Wouldn't Believe Me... If It Wasn't True

Pretty solid, technically a couple of humourous fluffs (bass cut out intermittently during final track), audience could have been bigger, but again massive thanks to everyone who came to see us. Amorous Oxide is a brand new track, the first Scanlon/Williams track to be showcased. Sonic Disturbance 2 is not a typo, it is the long-forgotten track from 2003 demo set The Infection. The other bands were very good and tuneful, check them out. Thanks must also be distributed to Becky for looking after the merch, Adam "Tub" Woodward for his roadying skills, and of course the venue for just generally being great. More gigs please.

2008:
Thursday 4th December 2008: Open Mic @ The Hive, UEA, Norwich.
with myriad other contributors including Johnny, Charlie, Henry and the band Black Gold.

SETLIST:
Deja Vu
Take A Leaf Out Of My Book
This Song Asks A Question?
Doctor Jones

Bob makes his debut resulting in probably the best recieved set ever. It was awesome fun. The audience was great, the sound was great (so I could hear to get my voice in tune for once), and the response was great as well. Doctor Jones was an Aqua cover I'd been wanting to do for years, and that was described as being "smooth", "epic" and "making my [the social sec] life complete". Sweet. Bob's name was misheard and so he was initially introduced as "Ork Williams", that was quite funny. Massive thanks to everyone there, especially the people helping out with the call and response vocals in the Aqua cover. lololololol.

Monday 29th September 2008: Queen Charlotte, Norwich
with A Story To Tell, The Transmission and The A.C.s

SETLIST:
Deja Vu
Take A Leaf Out Of My Book
My Reunion
Master Yoga
Training For 2012
Sonic Disturbance
Shatter Your Myths
You Wouldn't Believe Me... If It Wasn't True
You're Not Who I Thought You Were
Radioactive

An interesting night. The night was billed as punk night, I was headlining and Kevin didn't turn up so I did the whole set alone. Plus I was playing guitar which I'd never done before, and I debuted three new tracks. It was good fun though and seemed to go down pretty well with the admittedly small crowd (thanks to those who came especially to see my set though, much appreciated!). The other bands were very varied in style but all good quality, especially the A.C.s. Thanks also to A Story To Tell's participation in Training For 2012 and Radioactive, certainly made me smile. Good fun.

5th January 2008: Platform Nine, Guildford

HMS Metaphor
Confrontation With You
Deja Vu
Take A Leaf Out Of My Book
I Bought The T-Shirt
Shoulder Bag
Infrared

Make It Mine
Machine
I Want To Be The President

Will's organised "This Scene Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us" night. We followed superlative sets from Riches and Fireworkaholic with a very long set featuring two covers (Make It Mine and I Want To Be The President), both of which went very well. My Reunion featured a new drum sound which makes the song sound even better to us. The G-string on my bass was out of tune for HMS Metaphor which wasn't great, and new versions of old songs (Infrared, Confrontation, Take A Leaf Out Of My Book) worked with varying degrees of success (the latter two being highlights of the gig for me, Infrared featured a stylophone but didn't have much of a structure). Shoulder Bag was an amalgam of Shoulder To Cry On and In the Bag and worked pretty well. Brand new song Machine was also one of the nights highlights and was very well recieved. Following the set Will showed his DJ skills, starting off playing obscure stuff to the people who had turned up for the night before switching to 80s hits and dance classics to keep the venues regulars happy. Wicked.

2007:
Thursday 27th December: Purple Turtle, Camden
with the Novel Jukes, the Turnstyles and the Late Day Breakers

SETLIST:
Take A Leaf Out Of My Book
Master Yoga
Infrared
Darkness
I Bought The T-Shirt
Seismic Activity
You Wouldn't Believe Me... If It Wasn't True
Internet Dating

An oldies and keyboard only (on my part) set, quite interesting. Bit of audience interaction during super-old Darkness was funny, and the audience picked up on me having the same hair as James May. Will had a bit of trouble with guitar volume and effects throughout which was a great shame as he had written some new guitar bits for TALOOMB and T-Shirt. Hmmph.

Saturday 7th July: A Party at the Turk Household, nr Godalming.
with Kill Claudio and Ben & Amy, with the occaisional appearance of Trim.

SETLIST:
Take A Leaf Out Of My Book
Deja Vu
My Reunion
Master Yoga
Internet Dating
Infrared
Radioactive

A Party for the celebration of the birthdays of three members of the Turk household, was bloody good fun. The screamiest yet because i had been drinking. Ben joined us on drums for Internet Dating and My Reunion was dedicated to Kay Turk. Many other musical collaborations happened prior to all this, including many versions of Ben & Amy's Union Jack, Omar Road where I did some keys, and some improvised jam thing where I farted around on the synth. Before the main event we tried out a set with Ben on drums, but it was more of a practice session than a gig, we might try this setup live at some point, some bits of particular interest were versions of Aftermath, My Reunion and YWBMIIWT where i swapped the keys parts for the bass, so we were proper indie sounding, a confused medley of Onion Rings, Deja Vu and Seismic Activity and best of all, a more uptempo version of Nightmare In B Minor with drums and Trim on bass. wicked...

Friday 6th July: Fighting Cocks, Kingston.
with Overthrow and The 13.

SETLIST:

Take A Leaf Out Of My Book
You Wouldn't Believe Me... If It Wasn't True
Master Yoga
My Reunion
Infrared
Deja Vu
Radioactive
Internet Dating

Tiny audience, but great sound and even more screamy scream in Radioactive. Internet Dating sparked off a discussion in the audience which was quite amusing. Comparisons were made between us, Devo and Hawkwind... Was hell to travel there and back though. We even contemplated doing a tour blog entitled "The Trials And Tribulations of Parasite". If it appears then it must be a slow week.

Thursday 5th July: An audition at the Plantation Café, Guildford.
with loads of other bands including The Overnight Success Story (TOSS).

SETLIST:
This Song Asks A Question?
My Reunion
Master Yoga
Deja Vu
Internet Dating

Not actually a gig but I put last years one on here so here's this years' as well. We didn't get through despite playing pretty spot on. Will saw one of the reviews which explained the result: "Good vocals but let down by recorded drums". Seems you can only get places in Guildford if you have a drummer and play pop-punk.

Wednesday 4th July: The Star Inn, Guildford.
with SeeWeed, Treefinger and Gimble. 8pm

SETLIST:
This Song Asks A Question?
Take A Leaf Out Of My Book
Confrontation With You
Infrared
Master Yoga
Deja Vu
Shoulder To Cry On
Radioactive
Aftermath
Internet Dating

Much better than the last gig at the Star, couple of mistakes due to the sequencer not working properly in Confrontation With You and me forgetting how to play Aftermath because it was a last-minute decision to play it. Internet Dating dedicated to Iain Ballantine who came to see us for the first time in ages, now firmly established in the set as something of a highlight. Nice bit of scream action in Radioactive as well.

Monday 2nd July: The Queen Charlotte, Norwich.

You Wouldn't Believe Me...If It Wasn't True
Take A Leaf Out Of My Book

Our most out-of-town gig to date. Pretty good performance and a nice sized audience. Longest set to date as well, and all the other acts were class.

4th April 2007: The Grey Horse, Kingston
With Starseed, My Octopus George and Blitzhoney.

SETLIST:
Beyond The Sky

You Wouldn't Believe Me... If It Wasn't True
Take A Leaf Out Of My Book
Power?
Deja Vu
This Song Asks A Question?
Confrontation With You
Internet Dating

Well, this was a really fun gig! The other three bands were top quality (massive respect to Blitzhoney for loan of ampage, check them out), and we had a great time on stage headlining (unbelievable!). Things started of well when Will broke a string during the first track (the debut performance of Beyond The Sky), but fortunately due to lessons learnt from the last gig we'd brought my guitar along as a replacement. Power? also made it's debut after five years of hanging around and worked pretty well. Confrontation was interesting because it was the first live usage of the sequencer, and sounded pretty good to me. At this point we were told to wrap up but we managed to squeeze in Internet Dating before the end. This was especially fun as it was the first time this track had been done in a proper live environment and due to some tech issues (drums were really quiet all of a sudden) became an even more stupid song than normal, with the audience claping along and the two of us really giving it everything when it wasn't really necessary. Maybe could have had a few more people in the audience, but this was a really cool gig in our books. nice.

31st March 2007: The Star Inn, Guildford

Master Yoga
Shoulder To Cry On
Take A Leaf Out Of My Book
This Song Asks A Question?
Infrared
Deja Vu

Musically this was one of the best gigs to date, vocally it was awful. I am really sorry about this, it was a combination of alcohol, singing along during Decora and overcompensating for not being able to hear myself. Sadly the set got cut short as well so we weren't able to play Seismic Activity or Radioactive but never mind. My out of tune warbling at least managed to get a laugh when Will offered me a glass of water and I refused. ho hum. Cheers to everyone who turned up to see us, and once again sorry... PS We were on third, and Will broke a string during Take A Leaf Out Of My Book. This becomes more significant when you look at the gig that followed...

Deja Vu
Infrared
Seismic Activity
Aftermath

Well, our first London gig, and yes it was the best gig of our career so far. Following a really awful soundcheck we (well me anyway) were a bit nervous but following a great performance by the Moo Woos and a couple of pints and a Burger King we got started, giving one of our best performances. The first track caused a couple of audience members to waltz around the floor which made me smirk, the banter between songs began taking the form more of me and Will bickering which caused some audience members to remark that we should be a stand-up duo... hmm.. Overall the performance was quite solid, just the odd wrong note here and there (although the very first thing Will played on stage he completely messed up, which was quite funny). In ours and Ben's opinions we thought the highlights of our set were Master Yoga and Seismic Activity. Deja Vu went down well and My Reunion wasdedicated to Emily and Laura who came to see us. Thanks to Ben for roadying us and also to Eclectic Fusion for sorting out the gig, as well as all the other great bands on that night: The Moo Woos, The Storm Offensive, The Haiku and Parker (although we didn't see Parker because we had to get a train). Cheers to everyone who bought a copy of our limited edition Selection Pack EP as well. Ben filmed the whole gig so bits of it will be on youtube at some point.

7th September 2006: Woburn Arms, Weybridge (acoustic night)

SETLIST:
You Wouldn't Believe Me... If It Wasn't True
Take A Leaf Out Of My Book
See Through
My Reunion
Bright & Bubbly
Confrontation With You
Uncle Pat
One Zero
Aftermath

Pretty interesting night. After a long long time trying to sort out the sound (neither us or the venue having the equipment we really needed eg leads) we finally got going, playing a whole load of old material, and two brand new ones. Maximum respect to Wingy and Scott for holding the mic throughout (due to the lack of stands) and also Steve for organising the night in the first place. We were enjoying ourselves by about the time of My Reunion anyway. Interesting changes to the songs this time including the changes of of the word "movements" to "shudders" in YWBMIIWT, and the word "bastard" to "twat" in See Through purely because i thought it would be funnier. Will also encouraged people to sing along in One Zero but it didn't get much of a reaction... We enjoyed ourselves anyway, and some people were very positive about our performance.

9th July 2006: Mill Studio, Guildford (not actually a gig, it was an audition, but there were more people there than at some of the things listed on this page, for example the "down the phone" "gigs" of a few years ago)

SETLIST:
Sonic Disturbance
Infrared
Deja Vu
Seismic Activity
Bright and Bubbly

A pretty mediocre performance here by us but notable for being the first live performance in front of people we haven't met before in almost a year, the first performance with some new equipment (my new keyboard), and the first performance to feature either Bright and Bubbly  or Deja Vu. There were about 10 other bands auditioning that day, so competition was tough (and we were a little unusual). Whether we were successful in this audition can be judged by seeing if we're playing the Electric Theatre on 31st August... (no we weren't)

2005:
23rd September 2005: Cranleigh Arts Centre, Cranleigh
With Nex, Turning Point and The City Lights

SETLIST:
You Wouldn't Believe Me... If It Wasn't True
Infrared
What You're Saying
Seismic Activity
In The Bag/ Shoulder To Cry On

By far our best gig to date, we had all our proper instruments for once, and the only real error was in What You're Saying where I messed up from the third verse onwards because I thought I was out of time.. We think we covered it pretty well though! It was also nice to actually play Seismic Activity in front of an audience for once, also for our final track we played our new intro to Shoulder To Cry On which nicks a lot of it's tune from the classic 1991 b-side by the Shamen: In The Bag. The audience didn't really "get" us, especially not my whistling in In The Bag ha ha ha,  but enough of them enjoyed it to buy our new album! As previously stated it was a battle of the bands.. we didn't win, the City Lights did. The other bands playing were Nex and Turning Point. Most commonly used word to describe our set was "interesting". ha ha ha.

21st July 2005: White Lyon, Worplesdon.

SETLIST:
What You're Saying
15 Minutes
Radioactive

Quite possibly the best gig to date, not many faults we can think of actually (just one guitar slip up in the second track). It was nice to play Radioactive again because it's a good one to sing I find... Newie 15 Minutes seemed to confuse people, most people seemed to be expecting a fifteen minute jam or something, rather than a fifty second burst. A good 'un in our books.

2nd June 2005: White Lyon, Worplesdon.

SETLIST:
Master Yoga
Infrared
Shoulder To Cry On

Yet another three-song set, but sadly not a brilliant gig due to sound problems mainly. Master Yoga was alright except for a few guitar glitches and horrible feedback on my vocals. Will says "the sodding amp had no volume control, so what was I meant to do". Infrared was kind of renamed Interstate because to compensate for lack of synthesiser Adam played his harmonica, which was the highlight of the show in our opinion. Shoulder To Cry On was terrible! But everyone got into it. Thanks to Will Woodward for being very drunk, your dancing was well appreciated! And thanks to everyone who joined in with him.

19th May 2005: White Lyon,  Worplesdon.

SETLIST:
What You're Saying
Take A Leaf Out Of My Book
Shoulder To Cry On

Another three-song set, slightly shorter this time because we overran last time (due to taking too long to set up and playing HMS Metaphor). Probably went even better than the last gig, we were certainly pleased with our performance. Bits of interest: Will played the entire gig wearing the "Not My Real Glasses" glasses, you could only really hear Will's backing vocals in What You're Saying and the mic Adam used in Shoulder To Cry On had a slight delay which was a bit annoying. Sadly no-one plugged the tape player in and so we have no recording. Thanks to everyone who especially came to see us.

5th May 2005: White Lyon,  Worplesdon.

SETLIST:
Sonic Disturbance
HMS Metaphor
Shoulder To Cry On

Adam and Will play a three song set as part of the weekly open-mic night and, as usual, don't fit in at all. Everyone else is playing blues stuff, we are not. We still get a cheer at the end and, despite both making our fair share of errors, it went rather well. For Sonic Disturbance Adam played the house keyboard, and for the other two he played his bass (briefly playing keys during the bridge of  HMS Metaphor which was introduced as "a new one", because we'd literally just finished writing it). Will played guitar throughout and was out of tune for most of Shoulder To Cry On, never mind, the solo made up for it. Thanks to Iain Ballantine for sort of being the "roadie", and thanks to the venue, it was lovely to play there. One thing though, we were mistakenly called "ParasiteS" but we'll let you off.
Will's first words on stage with Parasite: "Good Evening, Worplesdon". At no point was any reference to the election made (it was election night).

2004:
19th March 2004: Sammy Skinner's House: The "gig" was a bit crap to be honest. Once we had all set up and got an audience together, and Iain had showed off his bloody Funeral for a Friend business to everyone, and Rupert had played a bit of Metallica, and I'd done a very tiny bit of Stranglers, Iain suddenly decided he couldn't remember how the songs went and got all stroppy and went off. Rupert and I did sections of a couple of songs but we were both a bit pissed (Rupert was VERY pissed) so we gave up after a bit. The songs we attempted were You Wouldn't Believe Me...If It Wasn't True, Infrared and Twelve-Bar Blues Thing. Frankly this whole business was a complete waste of time.

2003:

October 3rd 2003: We played what could be conceived as a set at Sammy Skinners house in a small room (a study apparently). Sadly we were all quite drunk and many people helped us out on various instruments at various times (people such as Richard Witney, Will Woodward, Steve Neal and even Stephanie Pickford). We tried to play a few Parasite classics (Counting Numbers, You Wouldn't Believe Me, Infrared and Screwed On Caffeine although Screwed On Tequila would have been more appropriate). We also tried to play some covers (I Believe In A Thing Called Love, Smash It Up, God Called In Sick Today etc). Each song was followed by half an hour of drinking and/or laughing at Will and/or dancing around (perhaps in my case only). Thankyou to Sammy Skinner for the venue and also Rebecca Sandell and Stephanie Pickford who spent the most time in the audience.

On March 7th we played Infrared, Internet Dating and See Through down the phone to Rupert Handley with William Woodward also present. It was quite a good performance with only a few glitches (Iain's forgetfulness and phone trouble). Before we played, Will performed his Happy Riff song and afterwards Will and Iain played some Rage Against The Machine song, Rupert's phone song cut out halfway through that song, but he said he didn't mind because he'd heard it before.

2002:The Alans Party Gig  on August 17th was cancelled due to the fact that holiday-loving Iain Ballantine was on holiday. In retrospect this was a good thing because the only other band there was the Part-Time Heroes and it was all a bit crap (especially as the audience who stayed for the whole thing numbered 2 (myself and Jony Harriott))

On January 26th we played Radioactive and Uncle Pat down the phone to Kit Yee and to the other people that were wandering in and out of the room, and that's about as close as we got in 2002.

2001: Although it wasn't really a Parasite event Adam, Iain (who hadn't joined at this point), Rupert (who had left by this time) and Alan Bryant played Uncle Pat  to some old people for Christmas. Adam played piano, Iain played bass, Alan played drums and Rupert sung. And that's about as close as we (well, I) got in 2001

2000: On July 16th Adam and Rupert, helped out by the then departed Ian Moore, played an instrumental version (I couldn't be bothered to sing) of Infrared in a music lesson. Adam played 2 keyboards, Rupert played an organ and Ian played some electronic keyboard percussion (which he messed up). And that's about as close as we got in 2000.

1999: Somewhen early on in 1999 we (Adam, Deok-jin, Rupert, Patrick, Ian and featuring Jony Harriott) performed Counting Numbers in a music lesson (it was written during a music lesson as part of a task, and we were showing the class what we had achieved, but the song stuck for some reason.) Adam played keyboards and sung, Deok-jin sung and used the keyboard percussion pads to go with the keyboard drum beat we'd set going, Rupert sung and played keyboard (he even had an improvised keyboard solo which I can't remember), Patrick sung and either played keyboards or percussion, Ian clapped his hands and shouted the lyrics and Jony did the same as Patrick. And that's about as close as we got in 1999.

1998: We didn't perform anything in 1998 because we'd only just formed.
