A healer's heart is not arrogant. If you seek the medicine to make yourself more important in the eyes of others, be gone from me. You are not a healer.

If you are unworthy and seek only the power without the wisdom, be gone from me. You are not a healer.

If you look down on the people you are to serve, be gone from me. You are not a healer.

I can not teach you humility. That you must find for yourself and within yourself. If you can not, be gone from me. You are not a healer.

I can teach you to hear the voices of the trees and the rocks. I can teach you to speak with the ancestors. I can teach you the ways. But I can not teach you the hearts of those you must serve.

If your words are "my abilities" or "see these things I can do" the people will turn from you. They will have no faith in one who seeks only to make himself greater.

A healer is the humblest of creatures. To be a healer, you must know you are no better than the people you serve.

You must have a servant's heart, for you will serve those who come to you.

You will tend to their ills and hear the darkest secrets of their hearts. You will bear the burden of their aid. You will hold the shadows of their souls.

You will search the dark places for their souls when they are lost or stolen. Your voice will call the pieces which have gone astray back to them. You will remove the evil spirits which reside in them from when they were weak and easy prey.

You will restore them to wholeness again.

You will work tirelessly from moon to sun and back again. You will heal them. And you will receive little or no thanks in return. Upon leaving your lodge, they will forget about you. Forget the sacrifices you have made for them. Forget that you have not slept nor eaten for days on end for their benefit. And they will be angry with you when Spirit gives them hardships in order for them to grow.

You will be lonely and you will be feared. You will be spoken badly of by those who seek the power without the wisdom. You will be debased and undermined at every turn by those you thought close to you.

This is not a path for the self serving or the weak.
