Review – Amanda Easton “Celebrity”
CD Single on Wild Cat
through Colossal Records
Amanda Easton has been a professional entertainer for ten years,
but with the release of her debut single “Celebrity” on Wild Cat
Records through Colossal she
is well on her way to the status of ‘overnight success’ which we all knows
takes about that long on the Australian scene.
Celebrity was written by Amanda in 1998 but with the growth of technology in the
music business and the guiding hands of Michael
(Bardot, Wendy
Matthews, Max
Sharam) Szumowski
and Michael Carpenter the song is as
fresh as if written on the back of a matchbook last night. The rock
edge/dance-beat combination with the irresistibly catchy hook and that
sensationally seductive voice will ensure airplay on both sides of the Austereo, at the 96.1-types, and quite probably at the J’s, too. Backing this release with
my favourite Amanda song Infatuation (also available for download at Amanda’s site) is guaranteeing its success. The Hey Joe/The Real Thing chorus progression is one of those that you can
hear over and over again without being able to pin-point its source (it has
taken me since April/May to come up with that description) yet Dave
(Tall Tales & True, Shane Howard) Geosch’s guitar work is enough to put your player on
endless repeat for this song alone. Wonderland rounds the single out with a semi-acoustic number
which has Amanda coming over all Suze (Baby
Animals) Di Marchi/Shirley (Garbage)
Manson/Sara (The
Superjesus) McLeod and should garner
airplay at stations like those of the MIX
network.
I simply cannot say enough about this marvellous talent (the words marvellous talent in themselves are over-used and insufficient clichés). Clicking through her site over again, meeting her in person and witnessing a live show, listening to the songs still isn’t enough of an experience with which to adequately endorse Amanda Easton’s debut single Celebrity on Wild Cat through Colossal. Just get hold of it by any legal and supportive means and see what the world will be singing in the 00’s.«««««
