The
Australian native graduated from Sydney's prestigious
National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) and
began his career as an actor. He has subsequently
worked extensively in film, television and theater.
He began writing with boyhood friend Baz Luhrmann
while they where both studing to become actors
at NIDA.
In 1991 Co-Wrote, with Baz Luhrmann, the screenplay
for "Strictly Ballroom." In 1993,
Pearce developed the television comedy series
"House Gang." which sold worldwide.
Pearce and Luhrmann next collaborated on William
Shakespeare'S ROMEO and
JULIET (1996),
which broke box-office records worldwide, and
among numerous other awards,
won a BAFTA Award for Best Screenplay.
Next he worked with Baz on Moulin Rouge.
