The Descendants of Charlotte Manson

First Generation

1. Charlotte MANSON was born in either North Carolina or South Carolina in the late 1700's. Her parents' names are unknown, but likely they were Scots-Irish immigrants.

Charlotte had the following child:

+2 F Jane MANSON was born about 1826. She died sometime after 1900.  Her father's identity is unknown.

Second Generation

2. Jane MANSON (Charlotte) was born about 1826. It is believed that she was born somewhere in western Georgia. The 1850 census of Talbot County, Georgia, describes her as "mulatto." According to records filed in 1856 in the Superior Court of Taylor County, Georgia, her unnamed father was of "the Creole or Indian race . . . which her appearance indicates . . . ." In later life, she was known as "Jane Brown," according to court records. Her name change was apparently owing to a relationship of some nature with a white man named Nathaniel Brown, about 35 years her senior. The 1880 and 1900 census records describe her race as "black."

In October 1857, Jane Manson was convicted in the Superior Court of Taylor County, Georgia, of running a "lewd house." She was fined $10.45.

Jane had the following children:

+3 F i. Matilda MANSON was born about 1843. She died sometime after 1910.

4 F ii. Mary C. MANSON was born about 1846. In 1853, according to court records, Nathaniel Brown deeded a small tract of land to Mary C. Manson.

It is believed that both Matilda and Mary were born in Talbot County, Georgia; their paternity is unknown. Both are described as "mulatto" on the 1850 census.

3. Matilda MANSON (Jane, Charlotte) was born about 1843 in Talbot County, Georgia.

At some point, Matilda moved to Upson County, Georgia, where she met and lived next door to George Preston BIRDSONG, son of George Lawrence Forsyth BIRDSONG and Susan Francis THWEATT. George was born on 25 May 1841 in Upson County, Georgia. The Birdsongs had been one of the most prominent families in the county before the Civil War. Strong circumstantial evidence points to a romantic relationship between Matilda and George. In 1884, Matilda, George Birdsong, Matilda's son, Otis, and George's younger brother, Albert, left Georgia for Milam County, Texas. The Birdsong brothers returned to Georgia in 1903. George Preston Birdsong died in 1905 in Upson County, Georgia USA. He was buried in Rockamount Cemetery, Upson County, Georgia USA.

Matilda and George had the following child:

+ 5 M i. Otis MANSON was born in July 1874. He died sometime after 1930.

Fourth Generation

5. Otis MANSON (Matilda, Jane, Charlotte) was born in July 1874 in Hootenville, Upson County, Georgia. He died sometime after 1930.

Otis married Bettie E. SANFORD daughter of William (Billie) SANFORD and Emely on 19 Aug 1890 in Rockdale, Milam County, Texas. Bettie was born in Feb 1872 in Rockdale, Milam County, Texas. She died sometime between 1930 and 1940.

They had the following children:

6 M i. Carl Edward MANSON was born on 20 Jan 1893 in Milam County, Texas. He died in Apr 1983 in Los Angeles, California.

Carl married (1) Mary M. Mary was born about 1887 in Texas.

Carl married (2) Izola FUQUA daughter of [unknown] FUQUA and [unknown] MAGUIRE. Izola was born on 5 Apr 1911 in Texas. She died on 15 Dec 1995 in Los Angeles, California USA. She was buried on 12 Jan 1996 in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California.

7 M ii. Otis Preston ( or Preston Otis) MANSON was born about 1894 in Rockdale, Milam County, Texas.

+ 8 M iii. Silas Leroy MANSON was born on 8 Jun 1897. He died on 26 Feb 1974.

10 F v. Seritta M. MANSON was born in 1904 in Rockdale, Milam County, Texas. Nothing more is known about her.

11 F vi. Pansy E. MANSON was born in 1909 in Texas USA. She died on 27 Dec 1998 in Midland, Texas USA. [Social Security records state her birth date as 3 Apr 1914. However, she clearly appears on the 1910 Federal census of Milam County, Texas, which was conducted on 19 Apr 1910.]

12 vii. Infant MANSON was born on 9 Feb 1911 in Milam County, Texas USA. [This child appears nameless on Texas state records; probably died shortly after birth].

+ 13 M viii. Quentin Vennis Harold MANSON was born on 20 Jun 1913. He died on 17 Feb 1987.

Fifth Generation

8. Silas Leroy MANSON (Otis, Matilda, Jane, Charlotte) was born on 8 Jun 1897 in Texas USA. He died on 26 Feb 1974 in Midland, Texas USA.

Silas married Estelle HARRIS. Estelle was born on 4 Sep 1906 in Texas USA. She died on 12 Oct 1980 in Midland, Midland County, Texas USA.

They had the following children:

+ 14 M i. Roy Lester MANSON was born on 27 Nov 1928. He died on 14 Nov 1995.

12. Quentin Vennis Harold MANSON (Otis, Matilda, Jane, Charlotte) was born on 20 Jun 1913 in Rockdale, Milam County, Texas.. He died on 17 Feb 1987 in Los Angeles, California USA.

Quentin married (1) Jessie Beatrice BOWIE, daughter of Elias BOWIE Sr. and Hattie BRYANT on 30 Aug 1931 in Rockport, Aransas County, Texas. The marriage ended in divorce. Jessie was born on 11 Jan 1909 in San Antonio, Texas. She died on 7 Jun 1973 in Monterey, California.

They had the following children:

  18 M iii. (Twin Infant Boy) MANSON was born on 16 Apr 1934 in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas USA. He died on 16 Apr 1934 in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas USA.

Texas state records say one twin was male; one was female. County records say both were male. State records also misspell Quentin Manson's name as "Momson."

14. Roy Lester MANSON (Silas Leroy, Otis, Matilda, Jane, Charlotte) was born on 27 Nov 1928 in Taylor County, Texas. He died on 14 Nov 1995 in Midland,Texas.
