Two men, believed to be reputable by their supervivisor, saw a strange animal off the west coast of Australia, between Maquarei Harbour and Port Davey, forman prospector for the state mining company, and his assistant, W Harris, noticed a dark objet on the beach half a mile away. When the men got closer, about forty yards, it suddenly moved back in to the sea, about thirty yards in.
They described the creature as being fifteen feet long, with a small head. It had a thick arched neck, and a barrel shaped body. It did not a visible tail or fins, but had four legs. It had a coat of well groomed shining chestnut fur. It moved by bounding farward. It left circular foot prints measuring nine inches in diameter, with four claw marks, seven inches long. The foot prints did not appear to be webbed. The creature moved quickly, rearing upon its hind legs when disturbed. It's height was estimated at three feet and six inches to four feet.
Both men said it was not a seal or a "Sea leopard", as they were fimillar with them. Unfortunately, no casts of the foot prints or photographic evidence was collected |
