Of course, any CB you get will need an antennae, but one of the reasons I bought a portable unit, is that I wouldn't have to mount an external antenna.  I quickly found out that the portable unit works great outside the vehicle, but once inside the rig, reception drops to within a several hundred feet.  This meant that I needed an external antenna.

One of the key requirements for an external unit was to be able to install it without marring the painted surfaces... no drilling, no rubbing, etc.

After looking at my rig, the local CB shop pointed me in the right direction and showed me the Firestik SS-134A mount (Figure 1).  It was Perfect.

I was able to quickly and easily mount my antenna just to the inside of my driver side Mirror.  If I wanted to, I could have also used a dual antenna set up.  For my Antenna, I use a Firestik Flexible unit.  I'm not sure what the name is, but I'm sure you can find it a a Firestik dealer.  The unit is perfect for going through the tree's since it bends as needed.  The local shop called it "The Ugly Stick of CB Antenna's" because of its flexibility.

Update:
I have taken this antenna through some extreme terrain and it still works flawlessly.
