The Ministry of The Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCF) is changing the way it has provided services in the past. The MCF is moving towards services being supported by community-based authorities. This Ministry covers many areas related to children and youth. See the main website for all programs and services. Children and Youth Mental Health - this portion of the website is concerned with the mental health plans of the future for children. There are links to government publication, services offered to children, the program goals and service structure. Child and Youth Mental Health Plan February 2003 - This is an executive summary and plan for the future of BC Children and Youth Mental Health.
BC Health Guide http://www.bchealthguide.org/kbaltindex.asp The BC Health Guide is offered free to all home in BC. It offers clear guidance when to call a health professional or your doctor. This guide is also available online at the above address. There seems to be more information available online than what is available in the book. There is a good section on children and adolescent depression, what it is, how it is treated, where to get assistance and references.
BC Nurse Line
Call the BC NurseLine anytime of the day or night
This is a good service. They run you through a series of questions to determine the problem and the severity of the problem and make recommendations for the next step. I have personally used this service with sick children when needing a second opinion and found it very useful.

Canada Health Network http://canadian-health-network.ca/ This website is divided up by ages. Therefore there is a section on children and a section on youth. This site contains a wealth of links to other sites that have related information for the topic. To find information on depression look under mental health.
http://www.vac-acc.gc.ca/general/ I have included this page not because it has to do with children and youth but it has a good section on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and what some of the triggers may be. They also have a nice section for youth and children who are doing projects on Canada's involvement in wars. |
