Do normal Angel's have black wings and black hair? That's the burning question that plagues Chihaya, a Positive Angel who has black hair and black wings. He and his partner, Katgetsuya, a Negative Angel, are on Earth monitoring the Earthians (humans). They are keeping score, tracking the rights and the wrongs because if the wrongs exceed the rights by 10,000 points the Earth will be destroyed. Anyway... The Earthian Anime is about 4 episodes long (or 3 if you count the last two as one) I'll give a brief description for each episode since they are not actually episodic. Episode one: Chihaya rescues a Bio-Engineered Nuclear girl who's being chased by some goons from a lab. The lab created her to run experiments on since it is inhumane to practice on humans (?!?). In the long run (to make the story short) Chihaya gets himself captured by a red eyed droid (brings the Terminator to mind) and taken to the lab so that Katgetsuya has to come rescue him. Chihaya seems very young in this first episode and Katgetsuya is very stiff and unbending (that could just be the anime) but he does show that though he doesn't care about Chihaya's concerns regarding the humans he does care about Chihaya. Episode two: Deals with the Black Cancer, a strange disease that changes the wings and hair of normal angels to black before it kills them. Chihaya and Katgetsuya are now living in Paris and they enjoy the company of a visiting pair of angels, well... Katgetsuya enjoys the company, Chihaya is distracted by his concerns about his own Black Wings and Hair. This episode introduces a hint of threat, as Chihaya runs off to find a Fallen (Black Cancer stricken) Angel and ask him about the change (since he's worried he'll get the black cancer) and Katgetsuya covers for him. Episode Three-Four: This set is probably the best in the bunch. It seems to be some time later, but Chihaya and Katgetsuya are still together. Chihaya meets a Bio-Engineered Angel (created by the same mad genius that created the Nuclear girl in episode one I think!) who has been created to be a weapon of mass destruction. Chihaya seems to take quite a fancy to him, Katgetsuya gets a bit jealous, the bio-engineered angel (Messiah) can't seem to forget about Chihaya. Finally in this episode there's a wee bit of smooching and getting it on...but then Chihaya complains he has a headache and...no no that isn't it. Oh well. Overall Episode 3/4 is the best in the lot. |

The first two episodes were clearly produced years before the latter two and it shows. The artwork is still nice but it looks like something from Speed Racer (circa 1960's/70's), not as crisp and clean as I like it. The latter episodes have a much sharper and crisper appearance. The characters look better overall. The art seems cleaner overall too. |

okay...I didn't watch it for the music...the singer in episode 2 had nothing on Shindo Shuichi (Bad Luck - Gravitation) other than that...it was okay. Okay? |

Personal Note:
|
Though my review might seem a little vague I did enjoy Earthian. I'm not a religious person so those aspects of the anime held little interest to me. I could wish for it to be re-done in a more logical manner, perhaps to explain the gaps in the series a bit better as I said a great deal of time seems to pass between the second and third episode and it seems to hint that something bad happened but by just watching the anime the answers are not given. (I suggest finding the Manga if you really want to know - BTW the Manga at this time is not available in English). |
