Name: Tazz
Height: 5 foot 9
Weight: 240 pounds
From: Red Hook section of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Career Highlights: Hardcore Champion; World Tag Team Champion; ECW Champion;
ECW Television Champion; ECW Tag Team Champion, Smackdown! announcer
People who remember Tazz from his days in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW)
still are surprised when they turn on SmackDown!, and see the Brooklyn
native offering commentary, beside Michael Cole. Back in the day, no one
realized that such a thug could be so insightful and articulate.
When Tazz started out in the wrestling business, he communicated not with
words, but by wrapping his burly arms around a victim and suplexing him to
the mat. Announcers quickly dubbed him the “human suplex machine.”
Then, the former ECW Champion switched to WWE, proclaiming his arrival by
doling out Kurt Angle’s first defeat at SummerSlam 2000. Eventually, though,
Tazz found his way behind the announcers’ table – and everything changed
forever.
Tazz uses his years of experience in the ring to convey an intimate,
insider’s knowledge. Despite his tough guy attitude, the New Yorker is
analytical, and even shows traces of humor. But he’s still Tazz – and that’s
why SmackDown! broadcasts will always have street credibility.
