Rob Conway may be one of the newer faces in WWE, but in certain sports
entertainment circles he has already reached legendary proportions. If
Conway’s success in Ohio Valley Wrestling is a sign of things to come, WWE
fans are just getting their first glimpse at what could be the next mega
Superstar.
A former personal trainer and basketball star, Conway entered OVW six years
ago and made an immediate impression because of his sleek look and natural
charisma. Within a few months, Conway squared off in his very first match—a
tag team bout with partner Nick Dinsmore. The match would prove to be
significant because it would be the first of many times Conway and Dinsmore
would see each other in the ring. The Conway-Dinsmore partnership would not
last long as the two would later spend several years involved in a rivalry
that would become known as the OVW equivalent of the Stone Cold Steve
Austin-Mr. McMahon rivalry in WWE.
After six years at OVW, Conway was so ready for the call up to WWE that he
made a splash on his very first night. Shortly before SummerSlam 2003,
Conway sat in the front row disguised as a United States Serviceman and was
called to the ring by the Dudley Boyz as an example of why they so
vehemently fight against La Resistance. When the Dudleys turned their backs
to face the crowd, Conway viciously attacked them with the American flag and
joined La Resistance. Just days later, Conway made his pay-per-view debut at
SummerSlam 2003 and even had a prominent role as he was thrown through a
table by the Dudleys.
While SummerSlam was a rather inauspicious beginning for Conway, it meant
that he finally made it to the big stage and has vowed to never leave it!
