Name: Joy Giovanni Career Highlights: Competed in the $250,000 RAW Diva Search Current Events: Was voted the SmackDown! Rookie Diva 2005 at No Way Out by the fans of WWE. Associates: Big Show The SmackDown! Rookie Diva of 2005 is no stranger to WWE. In fact, while her parents divorced when she was just 4, Joy would still visit her father's side of the family, and many of them were huge WWE fans. "My dad and cousins were really into it," Joy told SmackDown! Magazine in March. "We'd have our own wrestling matches and everything." Joy admits to being a tomboy growing up. She played in the mud and even collected stray animals to bring home. By her count, she once had accumulated three dogs, 10 cats, five birds, a mouse, a hermit crab and a fish. Once she got to high school, Joy played field hockey, was a member of the cheerleading squad and developed an interest in art. After studying at the University of Massachusetts at Boston, Joy moved to California and decided to focus on taking business classes and getting steady work. Still, the working world was tough on Joy. She toiled in retail and even spent some time as a waitress. Joy later became a certified personal trainer and went to school to learn massage therapy. Still, Joy always wanted to try and be an actress. And once she made acting her singular focus, she began to see success, landing roles on popular shows like "CSI" and "Monk." She also did some modeling for extra money and recognition. But her life would change when she entered the $250,000 RAW Diva Search in the summer of 2004. Joy was eventually eliminated on Sept. 13, but she had impressed WWE brass with her stunning looks and personality. In the fall of 2004, she was back with WWE, this time as a full-fledged SmackDown! Diva. She hosted a special Thanksgiving feast during a holiday edition of SmackDown!, which resulted in a messy food fight between her guests. But Joy's greatest feat was winning the 2005 SmackDown! Rookie Diva Competition at No Way Out, as she garnered more votes than Lauren, Rochelle and Michelle during the pay-per-view event. |
