Career Highlights: Hardcore Champion; WWE Tag Team Champion
Hardcore Holly was a tired man. A WWE veteran who, along with X-Pac (then
known as the 1-2-3 Kid), became WWE Tag Team Champion in the mid-1990s,
Holly had been through it all. He even held the NWA Tag Team Belts with Bart
Gunn as the New
Midnight Express.
He joined WWE under the name Sparky Plugg in the early 1990s. He is a
licensed NASCAR driver, after all. He thought it would be an instant ticket
to fortune.
It didn't happen. He became disenchanted with WWE's front office. After a
brief stretch in the J.O.B. Squad, Holly developed a harder edge. With that,
he focused his attention on the Hardcore Championship. He beat Al Snow at
1999 St. Valentine's Day Massacre pay-per-view to secure the vacant Hardcore
Championship, lost it, regained it at WrestleMania XV, and again at
WrestleMania 2000. Holly's toughness was used to his advantage again when he
was selected to be a trainer on Tough Enough 2.
In October of 2002, Holly had surgery to correct spinal cord problems. It
was a serious operation that required more than one year of recovery time.
Amazingly, in perhaps the best example yet of Holly's toughness, he refused
all pain medication. Holly's recovery is now complete and he is out to prove
that he is every bit as Hardcore as he was before and is out to gain a
measure of revenge on the man who put him out of action, Brock Lesnar.
