Lost Kingdoms

I must save the Kingdom!

So where how many RPG's can you name, where you have to save a kingdom? Quite a few. Well, in Lost Kingdoms, you must save the kingdoms from a evil fog that has swallowed the kingdoms of Argwyll. So you Princess Katia will collect Guardian Creature Cards to take back the five kingdoms. You will collect these cards along your journey.

The Guardian Creature Cards are you tools to taking back the kingdoms. There are over a hundred in all. Each is a little different. When you go into battle, you can have a deck over thirty cards. You get to set up the decks before you go into battle. One little problem is that your deck will be shuffled, so you won't always get to have the cards that you want. So if you go into a boss battle, you might want to have extras of your cards in your deck. With this card battle system, Katia, is merely a pawn. The interesting thing with the cards is that they can gain experience points. If your cards win, they gain experience points. After you gain enough points, you will get to choose to duplicate the card or power it up into a powerful beast. This gives you a lot of options on how you can win battles and complete the game. A great feature to Lost Kingdoms is the two-player mode that you and a friend can battle it out.

Lost Kingdoms developer, From Software, didn't do such a bad job with the player and creature models in the game. They look good and really fit into the 3D world of Lost Kingdoms. Maybe not the best, but hey who really cares, as long as it doesn't look like crap. The effects are also really cool to look at or watch.

Well, this is the little bump that is smooth in some areas. The sound is like all RPG's. The monsters sounds are a little on the weird side, but hey does it really kill you?

Overall

Gameplay-

Card Based RPG! Deal your cards to take down your enemies. You really don't see any card based games these days. Well the only problem that comes to mind is that you as a player don't have many abilities.

22%

Presentation-

Good number of cards. It was smart to have your cards gain experience points. That really adds to the gameplay. A extra cool feature is that you can fight against a friend. That is something that needs to be in more RPG's these days.

22%

Graphics-

Good character and creature models that aren't an eye sore. They fit the game, but the effects and textures lack a little where they could be a little better.

20%

Sound-

Normal, in a RPG sense of fashion. If your looking for real music, you might want to totally over look the sound.

20%

Overall-

Lost Kingdoms is a step in innovation for RPG's. It also is the first RPG to hit the GameCube. Lost Kingdoms offers a well balanced game that won't disappoint you. So if you're looking for a new RPG, Lost Kingdoms should be up your gaming ally.
