If I could name one moment when I was passionate about a
game, It would be Super Mario 64. It’s a classic that will always be
remembered, at least by me and other Nintendo fans. No question in my mind that
Super Mario 64 was a graphical achievement in 1996. This article inspired me,
because I was once asked what my favorite game was.
I almost said Zelda 64. But most people would pick
Mario over Link
anyday so I almost
perfer this game.
It doesn't much
matter anymore what
this game is. The
game is already
7 years old
and shows it's age.
If I could name one moment when I was passionate about a
game, It would be Super Mario 64. It’s a classic that will always be
remembered, at least by me and other Nintendo fans. No question in my mind that
Super Mario 64 was a graphical achievement in 1996. Super Mario 64 was "Console
Game of the Year" in 1996. I paid 70 dollars to get that game in my possession.
I didn’t know that some gamers thought that it was more popular then Quake at
the time which was suppose to get “Game of the Year.” They really couldn’t say that Mario was cute and was a kids game.
That kids game made the news! The news had a cover story “Why regular adults
were also playing Super Mario 64?” They this couldn’t say that about Super
Mairo 64. Probably this was before Playstation had any real good games. They
may have had Ridge Racer at the time, but they didn’t have any good RPG /
Platformers until Final Fantasy VII came out in 1997.
Mario is the main character
in Super Mario 64, and he goes out to save peach.
Back when I thought N64 graphics were drop down gorgeous, I became a passionate
gamer with Super Mario 64. The levels were greatly engineered. (not as much fun, I have a much larger game
collection) I beat the game 3 times.
The first time, I remember teaming up with my cousin and playing the game 16
hours straight pass Midnight. I was looking up walkthroughs on the Internet.
The walkthough made it fun! I never played a game that long. I earned a total
of 68 stars. Some levels were easy and some were hard. I remember wanting to
get to the next unlocked door in the castle so I could defeat browser.
Twelve at the time, I had already played Super Mario Bros.
for the NES at my cousin’s house. He knew the classic Mario too, and we that
game for hours. I knew all the secrets of the game this from playing the game
too much. He wasn’t as fascinated in the game, as I was.
At the time, I didn’t realize that the control was a
milestone for 3D platforms, all I really knew, because I was a kid, that I
could run around smashing enemies on the head and get stars.
Mario 64 was the last game to have a lava stage; a snow
stage, a forest stage(s) and some other stages included the Rainbow Ride stage.
All their pre thought stradegies worked out. Nintendo had a lot of enemies. The producer Shigeru Miyamoto, was suppose to be a near
genius, or very talented, seriously for directing the whole game, when he created this game. What is a genius suppose to show? A very
mean Mario? No Mario is the hero of the game. He doesn’t speak trash, he
doesn’t speak stupidly, he this doesn’t say a word through the whole game,
except for the end and opening screen. His most famous fraise “It’s a me, Mario!”
was also in this game. He is the trademark of Nintendo. Being
a heavy engineered program, it was highly replayable.
I aleast played the game from start to finish 3
times over before I went into something else.
A little History of
Mario
When Atari released
the Atari 2600 in the late ’70, the console was a immediate success. Donkey
Kong was Nintendo’s first arcade port. Nintendo was once a very small
developers which matured quickly. Who ever invested in Nintendo when they came
out with Donkey Kong would be a millionaire over night. The sequel, called
Donkey Kong Jr, was Mario’s only appearance as “Mario” on Atari 2600. When Atari
faded away after they were going to release the Falcom under Atari. Their
co-developer Nintendo, took the design over and trademarked it as NES. Two
games game with it, Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros became a
success over night. The US did a study on why home consoles were so popular,
and shown that children as young as 6 knew Mario as well as Mickey Mouse.
Super
Mario 64 is going
to be ported onto
Gamecube. Acclaimed
to be the best platformer
ever. Nintendo plans
to resell this game
and get as many
copies as they did
when they handed
out Legend of
Zelda: Orcania of
Time. Both games
will have several
bug fixes. Small
graphical improvements.
For a pitiful budget,
SM64 is the exact
same game you played
on Gamecube. Perhaps
they'll through
in a gallery and
maybe a playable
version Super
Mario Bros. too
boot. But
over all, SM64 Director's
Cut is going to
find the same drawback
as Resident Evil
2, outdated graphics.
