APEC-NEPAL - An Introduction

(APEC-NEPAL), is a Non Governmental, non profit, membership base organisation of Nepal, was established under a NGO act and Esatablished on 1988, by Mr. Medini Bhandari, Ms. Prajita Devkota, Mr. Pradeep Banskota, Mr. Bhaktalal Upadhayaya, Mr. Gyanendra bahadur Thapa et.al on Jan 1, 1988. It had been Commenced its operations from 1985 on personal level.

Introduction:

The Association for Protection of Environment and Culture (APEC) has been set up to spread the scientific concept of development as envisaged in the 2nd Earth Summit UNCEP 1982 Nairobi Kenya and the 7th plan document of the HMG-NPC, Nepal. In general, making development free of population and Eco-degradation. In Nepal dependence on renewable resources is considerable. A sound long-term strategy is needed for managing these wisely in order to prevent their non-reversible degradation. This alone will ensure a minimum standard of living on a sustainable basis for our rapidly increasing population.
 
Officially The Association was established on January 1, 1988. And it is registered under the Reg. No.267 and 1485 in the HMG Office and Social Welfare Council, Nepal respectively. APEC is also member of WORLD CONSERVATION UNION, (IUCN), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) ZOO, SASEANEE, CAUZ and other international organisations. An executive committee of 7 members constituted to run its affairs.

At present there are a central committee of 7 people who work full-time for the organisation, 17 part-timers to help the central committee, 555 volunteers who work at least 1 day per week for the organisation, and 1810 members (totaling all about 3000), who spend at least 1 day a month. These people work in 75 local branches. Each local branch develops its own program, as the organization is very decentralized.

It has four units and two branches (the Netherlands and Denmark) out side the country working independently for environment conservation.

The APEC intends to introduce multidisciplinary approach to protect wildlife, forest, wetland, social development and environmental drawn from various fields and disciplines.
