This page is a very small homage to the three vocalists of the original Black Metal scene of Portugal (now over a decade ago). One of the reasons why the mystique of that time was so special (beside the fact that this was then such a marginal part of the Portuguese metal Underground) was the fortunate circumstance that all three of these vocalists were truly amazingly good. Arguably, very few of the later vocalists of the scene can be compared to these original three.
JM was the vocalist / bass player of Decayed. He played guitar in Grogs early days. He did backing vocals in Moonspells demo Anno Satanae. He then left Decayed for a time, after the release of The Conjuration of the Southern Circle, and joined Moonspell as guitarist (and backing vocalist). He then adopted the name Tanngrisnir, later shortened to Tann. After the release of Wolfheart he left Moonspell and returned to Decayed. A lengthy career with them ensued, until in 2003 he once again left Decayed. Meanwhile he played bass and did backing vocals in Filii Nigrantium Infernaliums A Queda 7EP. He had long ago done backing vocals in Filiis early gigs too.
During the later Decayed years he was also the vocalist / bass player in their side project Alastor. At the time of writing (2004) he is dedicating himself fully to his Heavy / Power Metal band Ironsword. He will be remembered for his stage presence in Decayeds gigs, and certainly for his humourous sentences between songs, such as Bring me the head of Christ on a tray! I want to drink his blood! and references to fresh pussy etc.
In the early days of Morbid God, Langsuyars Bathory-inspired singing was one of the bands greatest strengths. The band quickly became Moonspell. Langsuyar did backing vocals in Filii Nigrantium Infernaliums demo Os Mtodos do Pentagrama, and also in their early gigs (together with JM). In time Moonspell left the Black Metal field behind (and he reverted to his real name Fernando Ribeiro), but the old spirit was somewhat resurrected much later with the release of side-project Daemonarchs Hermeticum.
A further flirt with a more melodic side of Black Metal was his participation in Roots song Salamandra.
Belathauzer started using his very particular and tortured voice in the first incarnation of Filii Nigrantium Infernalium, Bactherion. After Filiis end he was silent for a very long time, except for having apparently participated in some underground gigs by Punk bands. Now with the return of Filii Nigrantium Infernalium he is the only one of these three vocalists to be active within the Black Metal scope. And JM may be gone from the stages, but Belathauzers addresses to the audiences in Filiis gigs have been perhaps even more humourous and sarcastic than his, including readings from the bible, drinking blood, Gollum quotes (my preciousss...) and sentences like: Forgive my voice... Lately Ive been attacked by a virus. It was the Holy Spirit! He wanted to beget in me the Messiah. But I didnt allow it!
He is also one of the very few figures from the scene (together with his bandmate Andremon, also of The Sorcerer) that I have seen being really outspoken against nationalism and nazism in Black Metal, particularly in the Portuguese scene.
