SEARCH INFORMATION RELATED TO
NANYANG UNIVERSITY

Quite embarrassingly I must admit for not knowing how to use Internet search engines effectively until my daughter told me last week to put the text within double quotes for example "Nanyang University".

There is a great difference to search for text with and without doubles quotes. Using Netscape search engine, the search on "Nanyang University" gave me 858 results.

When I was a student at Nanyang University in early sixties, there were such things called forbidden books. "Lady Chatterley's Lover" by D H Lawrence was not forbidden but some other books were. One of the most enjoyable things to do as we said was to close the door and read a forbidden book.

The so called forbidden books soon lost all their appeal as these books and many more were freely available in book shops along Charing Cross Road in London where I went for my further studies after Nanyang University.

The 858 results returned by the Netscape search engine on "Nanyang University" include some very exciting materials and some of which may have been censored.

Be a bit cautious when you read the forbidden articles. No fears but perhaps some Nantah graduates would still go and close the door subconsciously.
