  ARRIVE LIKE SNOW FLAKES
  Editor, 17 August 2000

It is winter in the southern hemisphere, in Australia and in Sydney. The weather has been relatively cold in the last few days. I watched the arrival of responses from the cold air like snow flakes. Thank again, all alumni and friends for sending their responses. Excerpts:

Website

"At last I managed to go into your web-site, I also told ... how to go in, according to him he read your web-site throughout the night and having an urge to write some thing on it. You are doing a great job which every one will support, I believe your contribution will be recorded in the history."
Editor: am not sure about the last passage but support is always welcome. .

"I compose a song which might be good to be your web-site background music. I already used the to run in computer but I am still looking for a way to convert it into exe. There are two songs including one from me and one from xxx. The miracle is : music and lyric written by different persons can merge together and the contents are all related to Nantah."
Editor: Music! Great! This website supports the vision of Dr Mahathir on Multi-media Corridor.

"I suggest scanned pictures from Nantah alumni and post it on the web. I still think this is a good way to store fond memory of Nantah on the web and to share with all the Nantah alumni."
Editor: Sure will get this done for my class, Physics 1960-1964 soon. Alumni are welcome to send scanned pictures of their classes with brief caption for posting.

"Perhaps you may like to contact Dr Phua (email address: [email protected]), he is developing http://www.networkchinese.com which has information on Nantah."
Editor: Thank you for your suggestion.

" It is so nice to know that everything is moving in the right direction under your Editorialship. I like your plan and let it be done step by step."
Editor: Thank you for the best wishes.

" I note that your website has a good mumber of visitors. You have done a very good job."
Editor: It is a web site of the alumni and friends, for the alumni and friends and by the alumni and friends. Not mine though.

"Seeing so much activities going on after your website, aren't you glad that you are doing good deed ?"
Editor: Am not sure.

Spirit of Nantah

"I like your article on the true spirit of Nantah. In my long association with Nantah, but I never heard any one talking about Nantah Spirit before. Suddenly, there are so many people trying to explain or even define what Nantah Spirit is. It has become very artificial and is over done. Good of you to put a pin on the bubble."
Editor: It is hard to answer this one but good to get on with the work.

Website Attributes

"An 'official' site is just too vulnerable to beauracracy and commercial intentions which always confuse directions. Besides , it stifles creativity and the desire to express."
Editor: Agree.

" I read yesterday Yap's article on the Sin Chew Jit Poh a speech. And now I read your web page article captioned ".... (Editor: intentionally omitted)". On one hand we entertained .... who cannot even help to drop the "T" from "NTU" . On other hand we quoted a beloved teacher ( who has since left us and therefore can say nothing more) in an attempt to soothe the pain of seeing our own alma mater closed for the wrong reasons. Perhaps the older generations have short memory or magnanimous in their own way. I for one would design my web pages with caution. While I do not propagate the untruth, I will also make sure that I do not publish ambiguous statements, articles that were long buried under heaps of other articles so much so that we forgot under which circumstances were those articles written. The whole world is watching our nantah web sites. I trust you agree we have an obligation to stay responsible."
Editor: Truth or untruth may not be absolute. It depends on the angle from which you look at it. The articles published in this web site do not necessarily represent the views of the Editor.
