The Difference Between Newb and Noob – A newb is someone who is new to the game, a newbie. This term can be used in a non-derogatory sense as in "You’re new to the game", or in a derogatory sense as in "You're new to the game, hence a moron". Due to how easily this word can be switched around, one should make sure that the other is aware of how you are using it.
Noob on the other hand only has one side to it. It is always derogatory. This is a common way of telling someone that they are very uneducated on the game and should quit now before they embarrass themselves further. Either that or get some education on the game. It’s their choice really.
For simplicity’s sake, I’ll only use "newb" in this rant. It will always be a derogatory term which can represent any idea above. It if wasn’t the derogatory term, there wouldn’t be a point to this rant.

The "This Job Is Actually This Job" Newb – This is the very fun type of newb to be around. This is the newb that has never played your job, but yet they know exactly how it works and feel that they can criticize you when you’re not acting like another job. A major example would be the idea that Samurai are mistaken for Dark Knights. In an example, while a Samurai could be doing 70+ damage per normal strike, Dark Knights could be dealing 120+ damage per normal strike. This is what this type of newb bases his rating of you on.
What this newb tends to overlook is the Weapon Skill damage. Samurai’s damage comes from the weapon skills, as a Samurai could be doing almost 250+ damage from a Weapon Skill, while the Dark Knight could only be doing 150 at most.
Also, a Samurai requires a Skillchain to be effective. This type of newb tends to overlook the fact that the Samurai has been trying to set up a Skillchain to output more damage, but the rest of the group does not like to work with them.
This seems to happen to SAMs a lot. Well, now that SAMs are in demand because of the RNG nerf, a huge "fuck you" to morons as such.
Then, we have another situation, where the DRK is skilling up another weapon and gimping the skillchain due to it. The best defense "he's dealing more damage than you". WELL NO FUCKING WONDER DIPSHIT!
A) SAM is not DRK. WHERE THE FUCK DOES IT SAY DRK IN MY FUCKING JOB YOU RETARDED PIECE OF SHIT!!! Incase you haven’t played the game for those supposed 67 levels you have, DRK should out damage a SAM, otherwise the DRK is holy hell gimped. (Man am I ever sick of people mistaking DRK for SAM…)
B) You’re comparing a level 67 (me) to a level 69 (him). HOW RETARDED CAN YOU GET!? HE’S TWO FUCKING LEVELS ABOVE ME! I’ll repeat what I said to him: Arguing that someone 2 levels above another is out damaging them is damn near retarded.

The "I Can’t Read Your Information" Newb – This is quite the time wasting newb. There are two possibilities for this newb.
The first one doesn’t know how to read the numbers beside your main job. An example would be when you are level 35, seeking a group for leveling, and a level 25 invites you for a group in a level 25 area, with a level 25 group. When you point out that it’s a level 25 area, and that you are level 35, and they continuously argue, this is where it can get very annoying.
The kicker to this is when they actually pay attention to what you’re saying and realize that you’re level 35, not level 25, their best excuse is "I don’t want you in the group anyways now." This usually ends in a blacklisting to avoid this person from wasting your time ever again. If they can prove that they can read sometime or the other, then by all means, let them invite you to level.
The second style of this type of newb is the one who can’t read the 3 letters in your job description. The best is for Samurai, whose abbreviation is "SAM".
The situation is that you receive and invite from someone looking to form a group. So, you wait for them to form the group, get equipment ready, pay for a chocobo, grab a scroll of instant warp (which comes really handy after this) and meet them at the area/dungeon that you’re going to level in. You make it all the way to the camp, which could require some skillful dodging, or use of items, at which point they notice the Great Katana as your weapon, state "Oh, sorry, I didn’t realize you were a SAM." Then proceed to kick you from the group. A few profanities in /tell while asking them why they wasted your time and a blacklisting later, you’re warped back to Jeuno, to continue seeking a group.
(Somewhat ironic with the new RNG nerf, now SAMs are needed. Well, from all of the dedicated SAM to these asses, a great, big "fuck you" to the people who did this before the nerf and now need us.)

The Pushy Newb - This is the newb that is very self-interested and wants everyone else to hurry up for them.
An example would be when you are helping them with something and they are trailing so far behind that you have some time to do something else, like have a shower, and when you get back, you are spammed with messages asking "Where are you?" and stating things like "Hurry Up." and "Let’s go!". And yes, you let them know that you would be afk for a little bit.

The General Jerk Newb – Some people are just born jerks these days. This is your general jerk who just wants to bug others and enjoy when they give a reaction. This is countered the best by not giving them a reaction and finding which buttons to hit on them to anger them.
This person will be the subject of a blacklisting and maybe GM reports, but will be the perpetrator of attempted MPKs, verbal harassment and over all annoyance before those actions are taken against them.

The "I Have To Go When I Level" Newb – This is the newb who will state to the group "I have to go when I level." or as soon as they level, they’ll say "I have to go now."
If the first case happens, as a leader of a group (which personally, I rarely am, simply to avoid this situation), I would think to myself, or maybe say this to the person: "If you have to go so badly, why not leave now?" If you say it to the person, this should probably be followed by a kicking from the party.
These newbs are very self-interested. If they weren’t, they would stay around for others to level also, not just themselves.

The Bailing Newb – This is a far more annoying newb than the previous one. This is the one who will obtain their level, then go to unheard of extents to abandon your group, forcing you to find someone else if you want to continue.
Their methods could include force disconnecting on a regular basis in order to slip out later on by using their "bad connection" as an excuse. It’s somewhat interesting to do a /sea all and find them back in Jeuno after they "disconnected".
You really can’t spot these types of newbs coming, you just have to put up with it when it happens. Their excuse is "But I do it all the time, no one cares." I’m pretty sure that there’s a reason why you’ve never made it past level 30 with your first character. People do care if you ditch them.

The "I Don’t Know You, But I’ll Assume You Don’t Know How To Play Even Though You Have A Longer Play Time In This Area Than Me" Newb – This is somewhat of an annoying newb that you can encounter. This is the type of newb who hasn’t spent a lot of time in the area that you’re leveling in (and knows that you have leveled, oh, I don’t know, -9 jobs- in the area) and just assume that you don’t know what you’re doing in relation to the creatures in the area (what aggroes on what, pulling things, etc.).
These are usually your elitist players who think that no one knows better than them, even though they haven’t spent more than 2 hours in this area and they aren’t even the leader of the group to make the decision. And they constantly hound you for it too.
These people’s problem is solved by letting them pull instead, even though you’re more suited for it. (In a specific case, comparing a RNG to a MNK in ability to pull, and the MNK was not the tank.)

The Tractor Obsessed Newb – This newb wants to spam tractor to a dead party member, holding up the group and not allowing the person to be revived. This person can be spotted by being a BLM without Raise who runs off as soon as someone dies, whether they are in combat or not.

The "Why Not Sub A Mage Class To Melee For More MP" Newb – No, DRK is not BLM. No, DRKs don’t need a BLM or RDM sub for more MP. And now you ask why? DRK is a melee class, not a mage class. Would you like your PLD to sub WHM so that they can’t Provoke? Yes, there is a problem with WAR/RDM, and vice versa. Oh wait, you’re one of those people who wanted to go WAR/BLM because you wanted practice for DRK, weren’t you?

The "I’m Not Good At Pulling, Can You?" Newb – This newb picks the pulling class, yet picks up a lot of aggro when trying to pull. At least they are honest with themselves and know that they can’t pull, but honestly, if you know that, why are you playing a class that will require you to pull in almost every group that you’re in?

The "I Have A High Level Yet I Don’t Know How To Run Away From An Aggroing Creature" Newb – This newb can usually be found in the form of a mage. Supposedly they have a high level job, but yet, when they pick up aggro from a creature, they literally stand there and wait for someone to Provoke it off of them, while the entire party is zoning for their lives because of a link. When they die, they start to bitch about how people in the group have Provoke but won’t use it to save them. You run like hell you stupid bitch! We’re trying to save our own asses here, just like you should be.

The "Says Don't Die Then Dies Right Away" Newb - This newb is the first to say in a group "death, No Thanks" in auto-translate, and then dies right away. Well, these elitist types usually try to cover for their ass by saying something like "Oh, I have 2 level 75 jobs, so [random argument here]". While they may have 2 level 75 jobs, they sure don't have that much intelligence.

The "Obviously Bought Their Account" Newb - This newb is fairly easy to spot. They have no knowledge of the game and are at Rank 5 usually. (Goes to show, rank means shit these days.) They also come with no armor and state "But I have very good DMG." Well, hate to break this to you, but "very good damage" is what will get your ass toasted when you pull hate without armour dumb-ass.
"But I'm poor, like 3k." Well, farm then fucktard. Obviously you have a level 30 job, otherwise you wouldn't have DRG or DRK. But you wouldn't know any of this, you bought the account.
No one gives a shit that you're using a female sprite, whether you're female or not, there's no leeway given for being gimp to that extreme.
Another less recent example would be a rank 7 DRK who doesn't even know how to play. "Oh, but I have this high level job." Well, then why can you even engage you dumb fuck? I didn't start playing the game yesterday, so really, trying to lie your way out of it doesn't help your case, I can tell that you bought the character.
To those who have bought their accounts. So you bought it, I don't agree with it, but at least be honest and try to learn how to play to be up to speed with that character.

Example, during the NA-JP hatred topics, they’re always saying things like "Oh, I don’t hate the JP players" or something along the lines of they’re not racist.
However, a while later, they’re caught saying something like "If not, then you need to take the money your sending each month to play FFXI, and use it for an English course."
So, making a comment against a person using the message board because they can’t speak English properly isn’t racist and/or fueling the NA-JP hatred? They can’t speak English properly because they don’t need it everyday, but of course, you’re too ignorant to understand this.
Another situation: a level 30ish SAM trying to tell a 60 SAM how to play their job, while their highest is a 59 RDM. Add that to the fact that she is a lying bitch who says that she never meleed (yet proceeded to use Sole Sushi and start meleeing to "skill up" causing 50 more Bomb Tosses than normal…as a Red, fucking, MAGE). Lied about "never missing a Dispel" as I would have to put "DISPEL THE FUCKING MOB (call)" when she missed about 60 Feather Shields or so. Add that to the fact that she thinks anyone who doesn’t have a Hauby right at level 59 with their first job there is gimp, even if they went through the effort to borrow a fuck Hauby+1. (So, I’m using a Hauby+1, but I’m still gimp because it’s not mine, huh? Well fuck you too bitch!) The fact that she wanted back in a static after I told her to get the fuck out since she wasn’t welcome anymore just tops this all off.

This is usually done for crafting. Just because they have a high level in that craft, they think that it’s "their" craft, that no one else has the right to level that.
They also make themselves look like a fucktard by their ignorance and false superiority, as proven: "THEN GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY CRAFT IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT". Oh, so it’s "your" fucking craft now huh? Well, hate to break it to you, but there are many people who are A) higher level than you and B) were there before you ever started playing the game. How is it "your" fucking craft you ignorant, egotistical piece of shit?
Or are you just "that special". Get the fuck off the game if you think a public thing is "yours". What’s going to be "yours" next? The fucking weapon shop in Bastok Markets?

It came to the point where I was tanking with DRK, after stopping my use of Souleater, Berserk, Last Resort, Weapon Bash, and Food, to keep my hate down. I mean, for fuck’s sake, if you’re going to play a tank job, you should be prepared to tank.
The excuse: "Oh, I thought I would let you tank for a bit." Oh, well thank-you very fucking much…I didn’t know DRKs (with one of the lowest defenses in the game) were supposed to tank, or was it just some honour saved for me by your lazy ass.

Then, when I'm tanking because the tank can’t do her job for shit, you say "loldrk" instead of healing me. Good thing I have an almost capped (or capped, can't remember, but if it wasn’t capped, it was damn close) Dark Magic and I can Drain my HP back quickly.
Then, on the last battle, you’re so busy talking with the PLD who can’t tank for shit, that my HP drops from 600+ to 32, before someone else has to Provoke it off me who shouldn’t be tanking. 2 minutes later, I get a cure. By then, I’d Drained back most of my HP.

The “Gets Away With Stuff Because They’re The Leader” Newb – This newb does things which would normally be unacceptable under the premise that they are the leader, so they can get away with it.
For example, in this very shitty group (where I just almost died because no one would cure me), the leader is playing BLU, which I am also playing.
Not only did they assemble a group with a very large level span, it’s also not very well put together, seeing as I am tanking. BLU tanking is acceptable, but only to a certain point. When the closest thing to a real healer here is a SMN, this is problematic.
The leader says they will assist healing. I’ve yet to see it. Even when I have about 18 HP left (with a 605 max).
Also, the leader tends to have 75% MP or more at all times. Some BLU they are, won’t even use a fucking spell. They also don’t seem to have studied the job much either. They didn’t know that TP is the main modifier for spells, or at least has a huge impact. Their Bludgeon is also pathetically weak, which means they’re spamming the spell without the main mod increased: CHR. My Bludgeons are dealing 30 damage (minimum) more than their spell can.
So, then I noticed that the leader pulled out a club and was meleeing with that. At this point, the “wtf” buzzers are going off all over the place.
They’re trying to skill up during the group. Only a person with lead would try a stunt like that.
The leader is near their level. We know because they say “I’m 250 tnl, I need to go afk for 7 minutes, keep killing without me.” Then they go into a corner and go afk… FUCK THAT SHIT! I’M NOT GIVING YOU FREE FUCKING EXP IN A HALF-ASSED GROUP YOU’RE DOING JACK-SHIT FOR YOU FUCKING RETARD!
Oh good god damn. Add insult to injury. One of their friends some by for a gate breach (Garlaige Citadel). The THF won’t stop pulling (don’t think he knows how much MP I need to keep hate the entire fight, or then again, he might just be a moron, pulling when I have a whole 18/269 MP). The leader rests for a bit long into the fight, then engages and moves off to the side to assist with the gate opening.

The “I can do what I want because I’m popular and get away with it” Newb – This newb comes in the form of a popular person on a message board, not particularly in game.
They go into a lowbie group with an elitist attitude, throw a hissy fit when they aren’t in control of everything, come back with a 75 job and kill everything around the group. Now, they do this knowing that if they get flamed, everyone will back them. And that’s exactly what happened.
The person posted, after being told by Lanien that no one would take their side because Lanien’s popular with the crowd. He’s actually abusing this fact. Of course, what happens? People start taking his side and trying to use any reason to flame the victim in all of this. Others say they want to hear both sides, because they want to take his side, but his actions were pretty shitty. (Of course, we’re all used to this after his AH rant about overbidding on an item because he couldn’t take his fucking time for anything.)
So he finally posts. All of his theories are for level 75 groups (of course), or end game events. He admits to everything. People don’t know what to say other than “I take your side Mr. Popular”.

Waltzing into someone else’s exp camp with a 75 job to kill the mobs (skill up or not) is perfectly acceptable to you, seeing as you completely fucked up my last MNK’s group amazing exp chain by camping right on us (skilling up), until of course I let you know you’re a fucking retard. If Lanien were to come make a flame like this, that wouldn’t be over reacting, now would it? It is not right that the tank -should- be the only one selecting mobs in a roaming group. The -assigned person- should be selecting the mobs, which was the original poster. If the assigned person (by the party leader) is the tank, so be it. It’s tanks who think that way that fuck up groups.

The “I Had X 75 Jobs Thus Know Better Than Everyone” Newb – This newb can come in the form of a gimped sub WHM (54WHM/21BLM) who thinks he knows better than everyone else. 1 fight into a party, you’ll hear comments like “This pt sux” and the like, after they failed to put a party together (this comes into play later) then seeks and gets into a pick up. Not to mention, it’s only been 1 fight into the group. So, instead of waiting or anything, they start to suggest how to improve the group based on their own misinformed ideals, such as: “Replace the NIN and the MNK to get a PLD and a RNG so we can get good xp”. Meanwhile, just prior to that, he had invited said MNK to his failed party for some reason. Hypocritical? Probably.
So said WHM starts to attempt to belittle party members with comments like “You may have over 4M in gear, but you don’t know how to use it”. Let’s step back a second from this comment. A quick check into their gear showed that they were using some really gimp stuff. For example: free AF which is fairly useful for WHM was completely missing, and not replaced with anything remotely useful. (Some Defense+ pieces.) Let me repeat this: FREE. They’re gimp to the point where they can’t even get FREE pieces of equip which are highly useful for their job, yet they’re so full of their half-assed self, enough to try to comment on someone who has put the time and money in their character? So I decide to see what they have to say (as I know it’s going to be utterly retarded). They have no advice which makes any sense what-so-ever. Their evidence for advice: “I have 7 75 jobs”. Coherence people, coherence. First off, any idiot can get 7 level 75 jobs. Second, with how little this person actually knows, and them being Rank 3 (thus this being their 1st or 2nd job), I don’t believe that for one second. Most of the people with multiple characters get their rank up to 5 asap (as early as level 10 or 15 even) so they have airship access. Last quote sealed the deal, as I had predicted it above: “On another character.” On another note, I’ve probably asked this question before, but I’ll reiterate for emphasis: What do you really gain from lying? It’s not like you made yourself look credible. If lying did anything, it made you look like a complete and total jack-ass since your story conflicts with everything else you do. Ok, so let’s fill in the blanks for them: “I have 7 (unspecified) level 75(ish…I count level 10 as near 75) on an unknown character who’s name I won’t disclose, on a server which I can’t remember, but isn’t this one so you’ll never be able to check”. Sounds about right.
Now, let’s not mention the terrible job they were doing of keeping everyone alive, thank-you DNC for doing their job for them. I won’t pick too much at how he played WHM, as I’ll be the first person to admit that I’m not in a position to judge (seeing as my WHM is 37 or so), but I’m pretty sure that using nothing but Cure II doesn’t constitute a good WHM either. No Regen used ever, not even a Haste to the original NIN tank who seriously could have used it. We had someone who’s a WHM in my Dynamis shell (who was in the group also) rip them to shreds on that side. Unfortunately I couldn’t get excerpts before it left the chat log.
Thankfully, this person isn’t falling under the “I’m the leader so I can do what I want” category, otherwise this would be a whole different flame when he randomly kicks people he just invite to fit his utterly retarded goals. Oh well, people are morons.
Update: hours later after ridding ourselves of Mr. Negativity, we went on to have a successful exp group pulling in around 15k an hour, higher than he wanted with his “super amazing 10k an hour”, with some members gaining 4 levels for the evening.
Further Update: Next group consisted of PLD, WHM, MNK, MNK, WAR and THF as the DDs. We pulled in exp that makes your “super amazing 10k an hour” look like a flaming pile of crap. Start doing some research there since someone “who doesn’t know how to use the gear he has” is pulling in much more exp than your gimp ass can.

So you’ve failed the entire group at Curing the PLD, Hasting the party, and Refreshing anyone except for yourself. It’s called a Haste and Refresh cycle, consisting of 2 people for each. Don’t wait for Haste to wear off, because you’ve fucking missed it 60 times now you stupid bitch.
So, after you’ve been told to shut up and do your fucking job, you think you can take the reins of power by simply stating “This is the way it’s going to go down…” The fuck if it’s going to go down your way where you don’t have to do shit, you retarded fuck of a gimp bitch. Get some good gear, rank up a bit, learn how to do your god fucking job then tell me “this is the way it’s going down”. Stop stating that you have a 75 BLM friend who’s giving you advice, shut the fuck up and do something productive, since the advice is wrong anyways and you’re still a retarded fuck.
