Criticisms of BHE
Background Information:
Final Fantasy XI, Quetzalcoatl server, February 2005: Myst joins the LS Bastokan High Elite.
October 2005: Myst leaves the LS Bastokan High Elite.
Below are the reasons, with examples, copied and pasted from the message that I sent him. I removed all of the extras like the introduction and conclusion, as they really weren't significant to the criticisms.
Note to people who flame by stating their opinions over and over again...This is how you criticize something. I know that's a huge problem on QCDN.
Disclaimer: This does not apply to every member of BHE, not even every member within the admin status. There are a few good people in there that are above the criticisms, but there are the ones who really (and I mean -really-) drag it down.
For those who may be interested, these are the people in exception (no particular order): Charah, Joogar, Jimm, Sanborn, Parademonium, Rones, Akisu, Sorrowfulturnip, Paulio, Norkio.
For those who are not on the list and are wondering why, I probably never got to know you. Either that, or in the best case scenario, you fall under the clique part and just don't realize it.
The first would be how cliqued the LS is. It doesn't seem like a whole LS, almost like another mini-society, with mini-LSs in it. It seemed that if you weren't part of their clique, certain members wouldn't talk to you.
The next idea is was prevailant throughout my time in the LS. For non-admin (admin, officer, whatever) members to have something scheduled was brutally difficult, which eventually led to the person giving up. While this wasn't me personally (I never had a need for anything to be scheduled by the LS), I've listened to other members complain about it quite a few times.
Another fault that I noticed was that when certain things that didn't involve the admin were scheduled, they were often ignored and something was scheduled over them. Once this caused me personally to wait 2 months for another chance at getting a BCNM 40 up and running again. Yes, I did plan it via QCDN, and it was up there and constantly posted onto for about 2 weeks prior.
One thing that was said to me was that "BHE is too elite for their own good". I won't say who said it, but it was said. While I don't agree with them wholeheartedly, they did bring up a good point. They complained about how they were always "needed" for LS events, meanwhile whenever they tried for help, there was nothing there for them. While I haven't exactly found this firsthand, seeing as I really couldn't help for anything and I didn't ask anything in return, they had some pretty solid arguments. This would lead into my next point.
The fault that I can think of that would be the most serious of all presented issues doesn't limit itself to the LS, I would say the server in general.
This would be the idea that the mentality is always "how can this benefit me/us", but always overlooking where they can help the person they're expecting service from.
A prime example of this would be when Joogar was trying to get Promy-Holla finished. We had arranged the team of Joogar, Isanien, Jonas, Atfgame, Bluewind and myself.
Joogar, Isanien and myself sat at Promy-Holla for about 3 hours before we gave up on BHE members. Atfgame was around, but he was waiting on Jonas. Jonas just never showed up. Bluewind was more interested in leveling his BST than coming to something that he'd committed himself to. (Somewhat contradictory to the point of soloing with BST, seeing as you can pick up back exping whenever you would like.) Joogar left after that time, in a very bad mood, which I don't blame him for.
Anyways, I digress, that wasn't the point that I was trying to make. The point would be: During the waiting time, we had 5 of the 6 members on, so we figured that we might be able to pick up a random member who was on the LS at the time to fill in. Eormanric had nothing to do really, as he had just said so. So Joogar asked him if he would like to come to meet a reply that was close to "Well, I don't need it, so..." (I'll fill in the rest for him which he didn't state because it went without saying...I don't need it, so it's not worth my time since there's no benefit to me...)
This mentality seems somewhat prevailant in the LS, especially when it comes to pushing for Rawr. I'll quickly put an example to that where I was volunteered for a Sky run when I simply asked if Miya would recommend that a person be level 60+ for that. It was out of sheer curiousity, but next thing I know, I'm forced to "back out" of an event that I couldn't make it to, which I knew I wouldn't be able to do even (timing was too short for me to get a lantern), that I was volunteered into. Having to back out didn't make me feel too good, but I had to for RL stuff. I really didn't appreciate being volunteered for an event like that, but it seemed to be within the LS's idea of pushing for Rawr support.
Finally, there seems to be a system of "favourites" within the LS. I can support this with a static that I was supposed to be in with Zod and Miya with my SAM. Now, don't get me wrong, I can't do anything about it now. But this is like the 5th static that my SAM has been in, and I'm a bit sick of not really getting anywhere with it.
One day, I'm in the static. We go to Kuftal, have a blast, etc.
Next day (figure of speech, it wasn't actually 1 day), I noticed that Kahlann had her BLM around the same level as our jobs, and she wanted a spot. (This ties in later.)
Well, then they talk about a schedule change. I was willing to come on during Monday nights (which I normally don't do), as well as stay up later during Wednesday nights (while I have classes on Thursday, 6 hours of lectures to be exact) in order to level with them. No arguments against that.
The next thing, a Friday, I stay up to the point where I'm almost passed out and end up tanking 2 deaths helping Zod with her Garliage Citadel coffer, but I figure "Meh, whatever. She's a static member, I'll gain back the exp there easily." (This will go to show what exactly I will do to help out someone. I guess it bit me in the ass this time.)
I don't hear anything about a Monday meet, or a Wednesday meet, so I figure, ok, they must be busy or not online (one case for Miya, one for Zod), so I guess no static meet.
I show up for the Friday meet. Zod tells me something like: "Oh, we didn't know that you still wanted to be part of the static. We gave Kahlann your spot." I went as far as rearranging my schedule to stay in the static, bullshit I wasn't interested.
Then another idea came to my attention. Zod replaced me from her static, and yet still wanted to attend mine with her DRK. Talk about profiting. That pretty much did it for me.
Last, Zod said something about "Oh, I must haven't been paying attention" when it came to the issue of Isa joining the LS before all of this happened. I would like to call bullshit on that one, as we'd tried every static meet that Zod showed up to for the first few. This isn't one time that we tried, this was 4-5 at least before we got sick of trying.
Eventually, I gave up. I said I would help Isa get Rank 5 to get her in. Well, we all know what happened with that one.
That would most of my reasoning for why I left Bastokan High Elite. (It was probably delivered a bit harsh, but it does the trick.) Hard to argue against some of these points, now isn't it?
However, if you would like to argue something, whether it be a point, or to spare your own personal reputation (as in to be added to the people who are above these problems list), then feel free to.
If you would like to add to this, message me and I'll be more than happy to add to this.
