Oil on Canvasboard. (16"x20")

The distance between you and me grew
with all eyes watching.
Outside
stars colliding
We were hiding from the inside.
We were hiding from our lies.

Monsters took shape in the dark
in the emptiness of our smiles.
Insecurities colliding
We were hiding from our lives.

The ugly girl with pretty eyes,
the quiet boy with burning rage
just walk-ons in this damn charade.
Yet we somehow broke the madness
when we leaped off the stage.

Drowning in the silence
I leaned in
and trembled from the truth
Dumb and fetal in front of me;
hiding from the world
that bore you broken.

But still I chased a dream deferred
as the distance between you and me grew
with all eyes approving.
And so you ran away
as I stood hollow
but whole
in the rain of shattered sky.
