Bachelor's Degrees in Communication

    "Mass communications" has been used for any form of communication one to many by means of printed or electronic media (that are converging quickly at present). Many paths lead to expertise in one-to –many communications today. Degree programs described here are communications majors. (See advertising, marketing, and business communications majors in the B.B.A degree programs also; journalism is also a degree option). Students complete the communications and Liberal Education Curriculum requirements of 60 cr.hrs. At Sunway College. They transfer to the U.S to complete the degree of 122 cr.hrs. And complete their respective majors and minors. One-half of the degree programs are pursued in the United States where excellent production training facilities and professional curricular programs in radio, television and film provide both the knowledge & training for careers in mass media production, performance and management. Outstanding computer facilities, instruction (from top professor), library resources (3.3 million books), a daily newspaper and radio station entirely run by students, and comprehensive TV & Film studios & equipment all offer exciting, ‘state-of-the-art’ education in the world’s most diverse and innovative business environment that is growing explosively in the communications fields.

 Communications Majors are 36 cr.hrs. , Except for Public Relation which 48-50 cr.hrs.

  • Broadcast & Cable TV Production emphasizes aspects of production by giving students ample opportunity to do radio/TV performance and/ or production work.
  • Public Relations emphasize communication from an organization to citizens and institutions outside the organization. This major requires connate in graphic arts, film media, and journalism. It also requires an average mark of at least "CB" (CGPA 2.5) for admission to the major.
  • Telecommunication Management deals with the unique issues confronting broadcast stations and cable network companies including sales & licensing, programming, media analysis, and telecommunications law.
  • Organizational Communication focuses on effective communication within large organizations (including government and business groups).
  • Interpersonal Commination emphasizes one-to-one interaction clients & customers (semantics, nonverbal communication, intercultural communication, and ethical communication standards).
  • Media studies & Communication Studies provide broad scope to academic analysis of communication in society. Each provides a basic for post-graduate specialization in communications.

   True Twinning provides students with guaranteed admission to Western Michigan University if they meet the minimum academic standard of the university (at least CGPA 2.0). Public Relations students must have a CGPA of at least 2.5 to pursue the major because of heavy demand for limited seats. Students are guaranteed a place in their major field. Students are counseled by the Resident Director from Western Michigan University. The university accepts all subjects passed at Sunway College. True-Twinning saves time & money. In Malaysia & the U.S, 3 semester per year are offered so that most students may complete their degree in 3.5 years after SPM. This is a proven program, with more than 1,500 students sent to the U.S.

   Studies at Sunway College include the compulsory Pre-communications subjects as well as liberal education subjects required of all students. U.S universities require liberal (or’general’) education regardless of degree program; this is a key feature of U.S higher education designed to stimulate self-reliant learning, critical thinking, & adaptability to change. Students do not need to stimulate self-reliant communication major until they transfer to yhe U.S Studies to be complete in Sunway College are as follows:

  1. Complete 60 credit hours with an average mark of at least "C" (CGPA 2.0)- or "CB"(CGPA 2.5) for admission to public Relation.
  2. Complete the Pre-Communications subjects with at least a "C" grade:
