Season 1 | Season 2 | Season 3

From the maker of Cops John Langley, this show goes full time where Cops has only gone a handful of times, inside the jails. Between arrest and trial comes 'American Jail' - an inside look at some of the world's toughest city and county jails, seen through the eyes of the Corrections Officers who work the front lines. In their own words, the officers will share their day-to-day experiences as well as the challenges and pressures they face 'inside the walls', dealing with a variety of inmates who are facing the reality of losing their freedom, some for the first time. It has the Cops style format - three segments, three different jails, following an officer in each one. They show them being brought in, booking, holding cells and the harder inmates in the big jails.

Get Me Out (Theme from Jail) by Jon Lee & Lil Droppa
Intro
Another night in the streets, another night in this hell
I've been kickin' and trippin the cops just threw me in jail
Shoved my fingers in ink, they got my head under lights
Dear Lord, please get me out of this jail tonight.
Get me out, just get me out.
End
And the doors open up and they lead me outside
And they hand me my clothes and the key to my ride
Now the night hits my face and it brings me to life
Oh, Lord now I'm out that jail tonight.
Another night in the streets, another night in my hair.
Now I'm kicking and tripping without the cops on my tail.
Now my hands on the wheel and my fingers grip tonight and I'm gonna go home to my family tonight.
I been think' bout my home, I been thinkin' bout my needs. I don't wanna be alone, Just get me outta here.
Get me out, just get me out.

He gets an alarm for an inmate fight. They go over and two black guys are fighting. They won’t break up so they are tased. Antonio got FTA and drugs. Joey FTA and drug charges. John shows the wire and prongs from the taser for evidence. Sgt. Deana Wood says it was code blue, don’t know why, it was over the phone. Officer Theron Richardville talks to Joey, he says he was on the phone, hung up got back on over and over. There was a big line for the phone with 100 people there and 4 on line. He yelled at him, then it went to a fight. Ant says he grabbed at him, he stopped him, he wasn’t swinging at him, doesn’t know if he did or not. Joey wanted to call his mom, the line got longer and he wanted to jump the line to use the phone and got into it in front of anybody. He hit me first, he hit him after that. He got up to defend himself and then he got electrocuted. He wasn’t trying to get in trouble, just doing his time, he didn’t say anything to him. He jumped the whole line in front of 4 people. You are looking at 30 days in segregation. Even if it’s self-defense? Yes. Austin, TX/Paterson, NJ #307. 11/18/08
