M. R. Sellars' first Rowan Gant novel, HARM NONE, is one of the most remarkable books I've read this year. When the corpse of a young woman is found, ritualistically mutiliated in a fashion that suggests the murder is related to WitchCraft, a St. Louis Homicide Detective calls Gant in as a consultant in the case. Gant is a practicing Witch and his expertise in the field leads him down a dark, dangerous path into the mind of a madman. While I'm by no means an expert on Wicca, I am familiar with it and a lot of other concepts some call "supernatural" and I found Sellars' descriptions of all the events very authentic and quite believable, at least in my mind. I hope the traditionalists will like this book as much as I did.And don't miss the second Rowan Gant book, NEVER BURN A WITCH. I bow to M.R. Sellars' superior story-telling ability! ![]() Reviewed by Kay Martinez HARM NONE by M. R. Sellars is the first title in his Rowan Gant mystery series. I was fortunate to read this book over the past couple days, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about this fantastic book! Someone is committing ritual murders in St. Louis, Missouri. Rowan's friend, Homicide Detective Ben Storm is heading the investigation. Ben asks Rowan for his assistance because a symbol left at the scene of the crime resembles the Pentacle that Rowan wears. Rowan's gifts and abilities to "see" what the victims experience are gripping. The information on WitchCraft is both educational and interesting, expelling some of the myths that routinely circulate via media and fundamentalists about WitchCraft and its practitioners. The characters are so wonderfully written that I felt as if I've made new friends in Rowan, his wife Felicity, and their friends. I can't wait to visit them again in the next installment of the series. This book is a "keeper". The copy I read was loaned to me, so I have ordered myself a copy, along with the second book in the series, NEVER BURN A WITCH. |
