Movie Idol Matt Logan is at work on a new movie. He is out of rehab for alcoholism and has been sober for three years. He is divorced with a daughter he calls Mouse. His ex-wife, Nancy has married her divorce attorney and they have issued a restraining order preventing Matt from seeing his daughter Michaella, so in his frustration he decides to start a journal in the form of letters to her addressed to dear Mouse which he hopes she will see one day.

The movie is being shot on location in the North Carolina Appalachians. The cast and crew are staying in a small motel in Beller Mountain. Matt is instantly attracted to the female lead, Hallie.

One night he and his roommate, the director of the movie are awakened by Chrystal clad in a coat. Only a coat. She charms the director into giving her a part in the movie. He does it as much to get rid of her as anything else. Later, after the shooting has begun for the next day her body is found in Matt's room by Matt and Hallie. with one of his ties used to strangle her. Detective Pike is convinced Matt is the killer. This leads to Matt and Hallie being questioned again and again.A local tabloid has gotten hold of a few pages of Matt's journal and publishes them. Nancy, the ex and her attorney husband Wyndam show up with papers for him to sign permitting him to adopt Mouse. Just when all the cards seem to be stacked against him.....I'll let you find out for yourself what happens and how it is all resolved. There are several surprises before the conclusion. You can't go wrong with this book. It is a good one.
