GROUCHO MARX & THE BROADWAY MURDERS |

I've been a Groucho Marx fan ever since I was a kid so I picked up the first book in Ron Goulart's series (GROUCHO MARX, MASTER DETECTIVE) several years ago with some trepidation. I was afraid Goulart would not be able to capture the whimisical air Groucho projected in real life and transfer it to the written page. I needn't have worried! Goulart does a superb job of bringing Groucho back to life for us all to enjoy again. GROUCHO MARX & THE BROADWAY MURDERS is the fourth book in this delightful series. This time out we are treated to Groucho and his crime-solving partner, Frank Denby, hopping the Super Chief from Hollywood to New York City, where Groucho is scheduled to perform in The Mikado at the World's Fair. On the train they encounter starlets, Hollywood movie moguls and thugs galore and, as you may have guessed, murder is on the menu at their final destination. Groucho's endless quest to sing "Lydia the Tattooed Lady" to anybody who will stand still long enough to hear a few bars doesn't contribute to the murder, but it sure gave me a good giggle. This book and all the others in the series are definite keepers! |
