In my opinion this is an abso-freakin'-lutely BRILLIANT debut novel from an author I think we're going to be hearing a lot about in the future. This is not a book for the weak of stomach or heart. It deals with a sexually motivated serial killer in a frank, often graphic manner. LAPD Lieutenant L.A. "Frank" Franco commands Homicide Squad #93 in the heart of the gang-infested territory. Frank, described by one of her detectives as "Dirty Harry's personality stuffed into Martina Navratilova's body," is still trying to come to terms with the loss of her life partner. She buries herself in her work while battling her own inner demons and those in her own department who have their own axes to grind with her. The characters and their emotions were so realistic to me I found myself genuinely caring about what happened to them. Clare really gets deep into the minds of both Frank and the killer she's trying to bring to justice. This book is a must for those of you how like gritty police dramas!
