I found Susan McBride's AND THEN SHE WAS GONE certainly earned it's Mayhaven Publishing's First Annual Award for Fiction. The despair and horror a parent goes through when their child goes missing is portrayed in a chillingly realistic manner and I couldn't put the book down until I was finished! I hope we'll get a chance to read more about Homicide Detective Maggie Ryan in the future. McBride has created a true-to-life character in Maggie and it would be a pleasure to learn more about her.
