Dissent
(C)opyright 1994, Ian Pekau

Dissent is a dance/techno .MID file for your JV-80 with Pop-Expander and
NEWAGE1.SYX bank. This file, unlike many of its counterparts on this site,
REQUIRES NEWAGE1.SYX (available on ftp.pacificrim.net in /Pub/Synth/Jv-synths/
Incoming) TO BE UPLOADED TO THE JV PRIOR TO THE SONG BEING PLAYED!

NEWAGE1.SYX overwrites all memory within the JV-80. My apologies for the
inconvenience. I'm sure you'll want to back up before uploading it to the
machine.

Once you've uploaded NEWAGE1.SYX, select the performance "140 ECHO"
(performance 5) and play the MID file. The song lasts approximately 6.5
minutes and is what I would classify as "progressive house".

COMPOSITION DETAILS- This song was designed with several concepts in mind.
1) DRUMS! I have always despised writing drum tracks. The JV drums always
seem flimsy and staccato, not "flowing" as some have said. This song
uses the complete custom drumset within NEWAGE1.SYX extensively, creating
what I hope is one of the more heavy drum lines around (CRANK the bass and
listen to it on high volume). The beginning is light, the ending is more
heavy. Remember: this IS house, so it's not THAT heavy.

2) SYNTHS! I feel that songs should make maximum use of custom instruments.
DISSENT makes use of many of my custom pads, basses, and leads. The
result, in my opinion, is something that sounds a little different.

3) SMOOTH! My compositions usually suffer from my sharp transitions that
destroy unity. I am not good at gradual key or theme changes. DISSENT
is an attempt to unify a piece by having very gradual, repetitive
change (as often found in progressive house music).

I hope you enjoy my attempt at house music. I'm always interested in your
opinions and would love to get some feedback along with your own
compositions. Have fun, and remember to keep it loud.

Ian
