Why MERLIN
-----------
Oh no ! . Another sysex manager for windows.

Well, I decided to write MERLIN because I could not find what I was
looking for,(and because I want to learn VB, This is my first VB
program, be warned).

I plan to grow MERLIN with several improvements, but only time will tell.

I was thinking of writing a windows patch editor for the JV1080
( for no one seems to have writen one, and someone has to do the
dirty work), so I began reading the JV1080 manual pages speaking
of sysex data. I thought I would need an egyptologist to decipher it !!.

I was reading the JV1080 list, when I saw a message from Chris Sherwood
telling someone about the JV facility for automatic sending the sysex
codes ,when system Tx.edit is on.

And then there was ligth. That was what I was looking for. Just activate
Tx.edit ,set my sysex program to receive, press the keys on my JV ,
receive the codes, save them to disk, run a hex editor, load the
previously saved data, and just hand write the codes you see in the
hex editor(ooooof!!).

Ok. that works fine, but I am to lazy to do that often. I only had
a chance : write MERLIN.

The results are on your hands. I expect you find useful Merlin, enjoy it

Installing MERLIN
------------------
The author claims that this Merlin revision includes a setup procedure,
so it should not be problems when installing, just run setup.exe and
cross your fingers.

I have been reported of incompatibility between merlin ,which is a VB4
16 bit program, and VB4 32 bits (it's not my fault but Microsoft's ), it
seems that you can't have simultaneously running 16 bit and 32 bit programs.

-------------------------IMPORTANT--------------------------------
iF YOU HAVE INSTALLED A PREVIOUS VERSION OF MERLIN, YOU MUST DELETE YOUR
PREVIOUS MERLIN.CFG FILE.

Conditions
----------

Merlin is freeware, so you are herein allowed to do with it whatever you want,
even refuse to run it at all if you can afford paying for some other expensives
editors ( I don't mind to), and the only thing that is forbidden is to sell it.

I am going to make Merlin sources available to general aclaim ( and most likely
criticisme ) because I think that could help someone with writting midi apps in
an easier manner, and because I have a serious mental disease, not worrying
about what other people could think of my programming disorder.

You can find Merlin sources in my web page at :

Feel free to email me with any any bug report, advice, recomendation support
requests or whatever you can think off, I love receiving mail.
