Following graduation, he was awarded a scholarship for the American Conservatory Theater, but left after a year to pursue professional acting. His initial role on the famed TV series "St. Elsewhere" fueled a successful transition to feature films such as "The Hurricane" and "Remember the Titans." Denzel has received several Academy Award nominations for his work, and received an Oscar for his leading role in Tinsel Town hit "Training Day."
